We are seeking a detail-oriented Cost Accountant to play a key role in analyzing and controlling production costs. This position will be responsible for tracking material, labor, and overhead expenses to enhance cost efficiency and profitability. The ideal candidate has experience in cost accounting within a manufacturing setting and enjoys collaborating with operations to drive process improvements and financial accuracy.
Your expertise will contribute to cost control, pricing strategies, and profitability analysis, ensuring that manufacturing operations remain efficient and cost-effective.
Key Responsibilities:
- Cost Tracking & Job Cost Reporting: Monitor and analyze direct material, labor, and overhead costs. Ensure accurate cost allocation and prepare reports detailing profitability by job, customer, and segment.
- Variance Analysis: Conduct routine cost variance analysis (e.g., materials, labor, overhead) and provide insights to management regarding cost-saving opportunities and process inefficiencies.
- Standard Costing: Develop, maintain, and update standard costs, including raw material pricing, labor expenses, and overhead allocation. Lead the annual cost update process.
- Cost Reduction & Process Improvement: Partner with production and operations teams to identify areas for efficiency improvements and recommend cost-saving initiatives.
- Inventory Management: Assist in ensuring the accuracy of raw materials, work-in-progress, and finished goods inventory through cycle counts and annual physical audits. Analyze inventory variances and implement corrective actions.
- Compliance & Internal Controls: Maintain compliance with accounting policies, industry regulations, and internal controls for cost tracking and reporting.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of cost accounting experience in a manufacturing environment (cabinetry, furniture, woodworking preferred).
- Strong understanding of cost accounting principles, financial reporting, and production processes.
- Proficiency with ERP accounting systems and advanced Excel functions (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, etc.).
- Experience with inventory management systems and cost analysis tools.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Skills:
- Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and cost-reduction strategies.
- Familiarity with cabinet or furniture manufacturing, including material sourcing, cutting, assembly, and finishing.
- Experience implementing or optimizing ERP systems for cost tracking and reporting.
