Pre-Op Nurse

Education and/or Experience:

- Must have OR Nursing experience**
Pre-Op Nurse
- Prepare charts while reviewing patient’s history, prior to arrival
- Perform pre-operative assessments and patient education
- Assist with IV starts during pre-operative prep of patient
- Administer medications per Physician’s orders
- Assist with the medication counts and accurate documentation of narcotic log
- Circulate and assist Physician and surgical tech during procedures
- Prepare the operating room. Restock medications and supplies
- Perform time out prior to beginning the procedure
- Communicate with Physicians and care team to ensure safe and accurate patient information is relayed
- Documentation of operative note and times
- Coordinate with scheduling staff to schedule patient’s follow up visit
- Observe and assess patient while recovering from moderate sedation
- Report any necessary assessment outliers to Physician
- Provide patient’s discharge education, prescriptions and return appointment information
- Ensure patient meets discharge criteria per Aldrete score
- Document assessment data in the medical record
- Ensure safety of patients during procedure visit
- Maintain confidentiality of patient, center and physician related information per HIPAA guidelines
- Ensure regulatory compliance is upheld by completing necessary daily documentation
- Provide pre-operative phone calls to ensure education and pre-procedure instructions are received
- Assist team with next day post-operative phone calls
- Perform other task as assigned by charge nurse, administrator or providers
- Document and maintain appropriate workflow in patient’s electronic medical record

Education and/or Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Graduate of an Accredited Nursing Program
- Must have current GA nursing license, BLS, ACLS and other required training
- Knowledge of equipment, instrumentation and supplies required to perform specific responsibilities
