Alliance Steel, Inc. seeks an HSE Intern to join our growing team. The HSE Intern is tasked with assisting the HSE Leader in day-to-day site affairs operations as they relate to the avoidance of work-related incidents, injuries, illnesses, and fatalities. Additionally, this position will assist various teams with health and safety project design, development, and implementation. The HSE intern will also help the HSE Leader in all safety training efforts and in developing safety and environmental programs and processes.
This entry-level position requires no previous experience. Candidates must be actively pursuing an occupational safety degree or a similar field of study. This position will help develop the candidate's strong safety management skillset as they work and train alongside the company’s HSE Leader.
Requirements
Duties/Responsibilities:
· Participates in the investigation of incidents and injuries and in the preparation of reports and evidence.
· Assists in auditing activities of the facility and helps coordinate corrective actions.
· Assists in managing and training a Job Safety Analysis program for each position.
· Assists in writing policies and procedures.
· Takes an active role in the safety training.
· Assists in counseling employees for actions or activities contrary to safety procedures and protocol.
· Logs and tracks incident, near miss, and hazard report data in EHS software.
· Assists in the management of various safety and environmental programs
· Helps perform first aid and coordinate the care of work-related injuries and illnesses
Required Skills/Abilities:
· Proficiency within Microsoft office applications
· Ability to work efficiently within an EHS software
· Ability to communicate effectively to large crowds or in training environments
· Ability to read, understand, and research data and regulations related to workplace safety.
Education and Experience:
· Entry-level position, no previous experience required.
· Pursuing an occupational safety degree or similar.
· Preferred but not required: safety-related certifications, such as OSHA-10, OSHA-30, HAZWOPER, First Aid/CPR/AED, ASSP certificates, or similar.
· Preferred but not required: previous experience in industrial environments.
Physical Requirements:
· Ability to lift, push, or pull to 50 lbs
· Ability to walk long distances during plant inspections
· Ability to perform first aid and care for work-related injuries or illnesses
o Training/certification will be provided
· Ability to sit and stand for long periods
