We are looking for a Claims Director – Long Tail – Chief Claims Office to direct the strategy and handling of long tail claims. This opportunity will be based in our Chicago, IL office.
The Impact You Will Have:
The Claims Director will direct the strategy and handling of claims within the line of business Liability / Casualty. This role involves working closely with Underwriting and Market Management to develop and maintain strong relationships with brokers and clients. The Claims Director will manage the Matrix Claims Team to support the (KCM) Key Case Management strategy, GPG (Global Practice Group) for General Liability NA & Personal Injury / Class action / EIL) targets, and LoB Liability, providing technical claim guidance.
Some of your specific responsibilities could include:
- Claim Strategy: Assist with the execution of global Claims strategy for KCM, GPG, and line of business. Contribute to the development of global Claims LoB strategy and GPG. Support the development of cross LoB and regional/global strategy, in line with R&M, Global Head of KEY CASE MANAGEMENT, and KEY CASE MANAGEMENT Claims Head NA and Regional CEO.
- Claim Targets: Assist with driving the achievement of financial targets (e.g., full combined ratio) and contribute to annual target setting for claims. Ensure claims reserves and settlements are consistent with exposures.
- Market Management: Proactively support the acquisition of new business and retention of existing business. Coordinate with global/local MMC to drive successful execution of the strategic plan.
- Claims Approach and Compliance: Ensure claim handling consistency and discipline through management of the claims file review process in accordance with corporate and local guidelines. Provide technical claims guidance and settlement authority.
- Leading and Managing Claims Team: Lead and manage the matrix team, including matrix management of functional reports. Assist with managing cost centre budget within plan. Continuous evaluation and execution of matrix staff development.
- Relationship Management: Positively represent Allianz Commercial internally within the Allianz Group, and externally to the market. Proactively drive involvement of functional areas in the Claims process.
What You’ll Bring to the Role
Technical Skills:
- Claims Handling: Ability to assess exposures and mitigate expenses.
- Claim Management: Manage the claims for LoB, monitor claims exposure and reserves; analyze trends and scenarios to develop and implement claim handling best practices.
- Policy: Provide interpretation of coverages and manage the denial and acceptance of Claims for LoB.
- Experience in applying artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) to improve business process and decision-making is highly beneficial.
- Market Management: Apply the knowledge of how the market operates and functions, the business needs, and customer needs.
General Skills:
- Analytical Skills: Ability to analyze highly complex data, from multiple sources, in detail, identify and resolve issues before they transpire.
- Strategic Planning: Ability to develop, implement, and communicate strategies to address important trends or changes in the business.
- Coaching: Ability to advise, instruct, direct, and guide as a coach to help someone develop their skills.
- Stakeholder Management: Ability to develop and positively influence key, strategic position holders across locations and functions.
Required Experience:
- Significant experience (minimum of 7 years) in Claims Management position in the relevant line of business.
- Demonstrable track record of managing claims expenses.
- Successful track record of leadership in direct teams and complex matrix environments.
- Experience of remotely managing and developing teams across numerous locations.
Required Education/Certifications:
- Preferably a degree in Economics, Law, or other appropriate discipline.
- Completion of professional insurance qualification (e.g., CII).
The annualized base pay range for this role is $154,410 - $232,880. The annual base salary range represents a nationwide market range. The actual salary for this position may be above and will be determined by a number of factors, including the scope, complexity and location of the role, the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate. The base pay is just one component of the AzC total compensation package. As part of our comprehensive compensation and highly rated benefits programs, employees are also eligible for annual performance-based cash incentive awards.
