Allianz Commercial, North America is seeking an effective leader to lead the Liability Underwriting Function in the North American region. We are seeking an effective leader with self-confidence, strong communication and management skills, creative, analytical and innovative thinking, perseverance, with a willingness to take risks and an openness to change. The effective leader that we are seeking at Allianz Commercial will:

• Develop and execute the Liability regional strategy and proactively support the development of the global Liability strategy.
• Proactively steer Liability portfolio to ensure the successful achievement of the global Allianz Commercial Liability targets.
• Provide clear vision and leadership to regional Liability UW staff. Actively develop talent portfolio to ensure the successful achievement of the regional Allianz Commercial Liability targets.
• Develop and maintain strong relationships with brokers and clients
  
  

The Regional Head of Liability (m/f/d), that we are seeking can be based in the following field offices: New York, NY, Chicago, IL, Alpharetta, GA or O’Fallon. MO.

Some specific responsibilities could include:

Lead and Manage Underwriting Team

• Leading and managing regional team, including direct reports and matrix management of functional reports.
• Managing the cost center budget within plan.
  
  

Underwriting Strategy

• Developing and executing local portfolio strategy for Liability and ensure UW execution on strategy
• Supporting the development of global Underwriting Liability strategy, in line with AzC Global Liability CUO
• Supporting the development of cross Liability regional strategy, in line with R&M and Regional CEO
  
  

Steering and Controlling

• Steering and controlling regional Liability portfolio to drive achievement of financial targets (e.g. full combined ratio).
• Driving underwriting planning process and monitor adherence to plan, taking corrective action as necessary.
• Proactively liaising with functional areas to review performance of end to end Underwriting life cycle.
  
  

Underwriting Approach and Compliance

• Ensuring underwriting consistency and underwriting discipline and adherence to all corporate guidelines and authority levels, including Rules and Principles, Underwriting Authorities, corporate governance rules, and local regulatory framework.
• Referral / case Underwriting of key clients as required.
  
  

Product Development

• Proactively supporting development and implementation of new and modified products.
• Proactively support development and implementation of pricing tools
  
  

Market & Relationships Management

• Proactively support acquisition of new business and retention of existing business (including client and broker negotiations where necessary).
• Coordinate with local Distribution Team to drive successful execution of strategic plan.
• Maintain executive contacts and accompany the Underwriting of all core or strategic accounts.
• Positively represent AzC internally within the Allianz Group, and externally to the market.
• Proactively drive involvement of functional areas in Underwriting process, including e.g. Distribution, ARC, Claims, Operations
  
  

What You’ll Bring To The Role

• Master’s Degree - Preferable Degree in Economics, Law, or other appropriate discipline.
• Trade Qualification - Completion of professional insurance certification such as CPCU or SCLA.
• Minimum of 11 years’ experience with a top expert understanding of regional/local line of business insurance markets and competitor markets.
• Minimum of 11 years’ experience in Underwriting management position in relevant line of business, including experience in leadership of direct teams internationally and with complex global matrix environments.
• Managing people: Ability to lead and manage a team of underwriters. Includes the ability to delegate tasks, steer team direction/goals, etc.
• Top expert understanding of legal and regulatory framework.
• Risk Assessment and Management: Ability to assess risk inherent exposures and natural hazards relevant to Liability
• Pricing and Market management: Analyze current performance against benchmarks applying how the market operates and functions, the business needs and customer needs.
• Contract Drafting and Interpretation: Design, develop and implement consistent, robust wordings.
• Policy Management: Robust understanding of policy administration life cycle, information collection, policy issuance, premium bookings, credit control, cancellation.
• Communication & Presentation: Ability to express ideas and messages clearly, both written and verbally. Ability to "sell" an improvised or prepared audience winning story
• Influencing skills: Ability to persuade and motivate others to act, without executive authority.
• Analytical Skills: Ability to analyze highly complex data, from multiple sources, in detail; identify and resolve issues before they transpire.
• Well recognized relationship building with brokers at peer group level and well established within local market.
  
  

The annualized base pay range for this role is $232,014 - $361,103. The annual base salary range represents a nationwide market range. The actual salary for this position may be above and will be determined by a number of factors, including the scope, complexity and location of the role, the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate. The base pay is just one component of the AzC total compensation package.  As part of our comprehensive compensation and highly rated benefits programs, employees are also eligible for annual performance-based cash incentive awards.
