The Data Science team at Allianz Life sits within the Data & Analytics Center of Excellence and is responsible for developing machine learning, automation, NLP, generative AI and other data science solutions across the company. The team supports all areas of the business including operations, sales / distribution, marketing / growth, HR and compliance.
The 2025 Data Science Summer Internship position will provide an opportunity to tackle challenging and meaningful real world business problems using cutting edge data science techniques and solutions. You will be partnering with business stakeholders and technical teams on highly impactful projects. A successful candidate will have a strong foundation in data science and statistics as well as strong communications skills and a willingness to work in a collaborative environment. This is a hybrid role open to students that currently attend school in the Minneapolis-St.Paul metropolitan area.
What you do :
Assist in designing and developing data science solutions and / or statistical analyses that will address important business needs
Query and prepare relevant data for models and analysis, including performing exploratory data analysis
Collaborate with business stakeholders and data scientists to understand business problems and contribute to development of appropriate solutions
Implement quality code and participate in regular code reviews with data scientists
Work independently and as part of a team on various projects
Present findings and recommendations to team members
What you bring : Minimum :
Currently pursuing an undergraduate degree in statistics, data science, math, computer science, or a related quantitative field, with a strong preference for recent graduates or candidates who will be graduating by summer of 2025
Proficiency working with dataframes in Python and / or R.
Working knowledge of basic statistical concepts and machine learning techniques.
Experience with databases, including ability to write SQL queries.
Ability to summarize, explore and visualize data.
Flexibility and adaptability to navigate project changes.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Curiosity to learn, including an interest in learning about the life insurance and annuities industry
Preferred :
Previous internship or project experience in data science / analytics or a related role
Exposure to supervised and unsupervised machine learning solutions.
Basic familiarity with Git as the version control tool
Hourly Rate : $28-31 / hour
Actual base salary may vary based upon factors such as relevant experience, qualifications, and internal equity of peers.
