REPORTS TO: Supervisor-Production

PURPOSE:  An effective Custodian holds safety as a value. Demonstrates safe work practices in all they do and has no hesitation notifying anyone of an unsafe situation. Can work as a cohesive team and has the skill to identify problems and recommend improvements to provide quality, on-time products to our customers. Provides services to ensure a clean, sanitary, safe, and well-maintained facility.

1.0   DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES: 

1. Follow all company safety guidelines, practices, and procedures. This includes the proper use of personal protective equipment when required.
2. Ensure all restrooms and breakrooms are cleaned and stocked with necessary supplies.
3. Empty all trash receptacles, both interior and exterior ones, and cigarette butt receptacles. Communicate when compactors are full or need repaired.
4. Assist in other miscellaneous duties to maintain plant areas, such as water fountains, eyewash stations, etc.
5. Conducts a safety inspection before operating lift trucks, notifies supervisor of any safety concerns.
6. Operate lift truck, all floor cleaning and scrubbing equipment and trash compactor in a safe and efficient manner.
7. Follow company policies and procedures.
8. Work with team members to maximize productivity and efficiency.
9. Targeted reduction in waste of all forms (time, materials, labor).
10. Communicate effectively with supervisors, group leads and business unit managers.
11. Creating and continually improving upon a culture of teamwork, accountability, and trust by modeling expectations and providing positive feedback to drive desired behaviors.
12. Gaining knowledge and keeping up to date on safety and quality regulatory notices.
13. Responsible for maintaining regular and reliable attendance and punctuality per company policies and procedures.
14. Performing other duties, as assigned.

2.0    REQUIRED SKILL / ABILITIES

3.0       EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:

• Minimum High School Diploma, GED or one-year equivalent experience required.
• Prior experience working in a manufacturing setting preferred.
• Experience cleaning and driving a stand-up forklift a plus.
• Capable of growing in knowledge and demonstrating competency in your job.

4.0   MENTAL/VISUAL REQUIREMENT:

• Continuous mental and visual requirements to maintain equipment, mix cleaning solutions and perform a variety of other cleaning and facility maintenance duties.
• Continuous mental and visual requirements when operating a lift truck.
• Ability to communicate well in both verbal and written forms.
• Ability to generate reporting documents and participate in team meetings.
• Self-motivated with ability to multi-task in a fast-paced production environment.
• Good general ability with use of computer touch screens and written documents.
• Basic math skills, ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

5.0  PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an associate to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. • Ability to stand while operating a lift truck for extended periods of time
• Walk, use hands to feel or handle objects, tools, or controls
• Reach and lift with hands and arms; talk, see and hear
• Associate will work in a production setting and may repeatedly/occasionally be required to perform repetitive work tasks.
• Use of hands and wrists continuously
• Must be able to carry, push, pull or lift up to 50 lbs. occasionally
• Engage in frequent bending, stooping, squatting to perform cleaning activities
• Handle cleaning agents, empty trash containers, and perform various other cleaning duties
• Associate may need to be available for extended shift hours if needed and assist in emergency situations
• Duties, responsibilities, and activities may change at any time with or without notice, based on operational needs

6.0     WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Due to the open environment of the building, must be able to work in various temperatures. Involves moderate or occasional presence of unfavorable conditions, i.e., cold, dust, heat, noise, odor, chemicals, etc. Safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, heat protective sleeves, and safety shoes may be required in the area that you are working in based on our safety PPE standards.
