Description
GENERAL SUMMARY
Reporting directly to the ASD Supports Manager, the Autism Support Specialist is responsible for providing supervision and support to each individual to develop and grow towards greater independence.
Assigned duties are implemented in a manner appropriate to the age-specific needs of the residents served.

EDUCATION :
High school diploma or equivalent required.
College courses in Social Services preferred
WORK EXPERIENCE :
Two (2) years experience in working with individuals with autism / developmental / behavioral health disabilities preferred.
SPECIAL EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS :
Must be cleared by PA State Police criminal history check.
CPR certification and First Aid certification must be obtained within the first six (6) months of hire and maintained throughout employment.
Bureau of Autism Services training curriculum preferred prior to employment; completion of BAS training within 30 days after hire
Good written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills required for effective working relationships with residents, coworkers, management, and external customers.
Valid PA drivers license required for driving program vehicle during working hours for travel throughout the community to transport residents to work, school, recreational activities, etc.
Must successfully complete Allied Fleet Program.
Must be able to work flexible schedule to accommodate the needs of the residents of the program
Must possess the ability to make mature and good judgments related to resident safety
Must adhere to established company program policies and procedures related to safety and infection control
Monitors all medications as prescribed by physicians for residents.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS :
Medium Work : duties require exerting 25 to 50 lbs. of force occasionally (approx 10-33% of shift), and / or 10-25lbs. of force frequently (approx 33-66% of the time), and / or greater than negligible amount up to 10 lbs. of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, and move objects.
Position involves bending, reaching, and stooping (occasionally in strained position) throughout shift.
Ability to transport self throughout home is required.
Position involves implementing individual support plans, i.e., individual goals, behavioral / emotional support plans, etc.
Sight, hearing, and speech sufficient to effectively communicate with individuals is required.
Must have ability to attend to various emergency and other individual medical needs in various program locations as situations demand.
Must be able to travel to various program locations as needed.
ACCIDENT OR HEALTH HAZARDS :
Position required occasional crisis intervention.
Position involves occupational exposure to blood or other potentially infectious materials.
WORKING CONDITIONS :
Works in residential settings for individuals with autism.
Position involves participation in indoor and outdoor activities during all seasons of the year.
Occasionally environment may be noisy and distracting.
