Join our Alexandria, VA office as a Facility Assessor and play a vital role in evaluating and maintaining the functionality and integrity of buildings and their systems.
How Will You Contribute to the Team?
- Conduct comprehensive facility condition assessments, including interior and exterior inspections, under direct supervision and in alignment with established practices.
- Document findings using photographs, sketches, and notes, ensuring accurate and thorough data collection. Utilize computer tablets with built-in cameras to capture images of mechanical and electrical systems, while justifying condition assessments.
- Review and interpret architectural and engineering blueprints to understand building layouts and identify areas of concern.
- Draft preliminary reports, highlighting necessary repairs, maintenance, or upgrades. Compile data into structured formats for detailed condition assessment reports.
- Apply basic knowledge of building systems (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, structural) to evaluate their condition and operational status, identifying potential defects or concerns.
- Perform fieldwork, including climbing ladders, entering confined spaces, and inspecting facilities in various weather conditions. Assessors may walk up to 5 miles per day during inspections.
- Interact with clients to clarify requirements and provide preliminary feedback on assessments while professionally representing the company.
- Stay informed about emerging building technologies, materials, and assessment methodologies, attending training sessions to enhance expertise.
- Assist senior assessors in managing project timelines to ensure assessments are completed within deadlines. Collaborate with team members to maintain efficiency and effectiveness.
What Will You Contribute?
- At least 2 years of relevant experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, or Architectural Engineering or a related field.
- Knowledge of Building Systems, including Architectural, Structural, Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing systems.
- Strong communication skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
- Good organizational and time management skills with the ability to meet hard deadlines and adjust to changing priorities.
- Strong analytical skills to interpret data and recommend effective solutions.
- Experience with AutoCAD or similar software.
- Background or education in Construction Management, Facilities Management, or Building Science is a plus.
