A substation physical design engineer designs and develops electrical substations, including engineering calculations, drafting, and procurement packages. They work on projects ranging from 12kV to 230kV.
Responsibilities
- Design and implement substation systems, including foundations, bus, switches, and transformers
- Create detailed engineering deliverables, such as elevation, grounding, and conduit drawings
- Perform engineering calculations for manufacturing, construction, and installation
- Inspect completed installations to ensure compliance with design and safety standards
- Oversee project production to ensure projects are completed on time and within budget
- Prepare engineering calculations, drafting, and procurement packages
- Work closely with other groups, including Electric Distribution Engineering, System Planning, and Marketing
- Assist in troubleshooting substation problems
Core disciplines environmental/water resources, geotechnical, and structural.
Skills and experience
- Proficiency in CAD tools
- Experience with engineering documents and drawings
- Ability to perform detailed calculations
- Ability to work under the supervision of a lead engineer
Salary : $40 - $60
