Job Description
Our canine group, under Allied Universal® Enhanced Protection Services, is hiring a Veterinary Technician. The Licensed Veterinary Technician is a part of the Canine Wellness and Support (CWS) mission in Winchester, Virginia working within our AAHA-accredited hospital. The Veterinary Technician should be able to work independently with minimal supervision to provide exceptional care for an in-house working canine population. Communication skills and ability to adapt in high stress situations are a must for this position. The Veterinary Technician may travel and work both nationally and internationally, for extended periods, in austere and / or challenging locations. RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Under the direction of a licensed veterinarian, treat canines for various diseases / injuries and provide preventative / maintenance care (e.g., vaccinations, laboratory sample collection, etc.)
- Utilizing in-house imaging modalities, such as digital radiographs, and ultrasound; perform the studies and assist with the interpretation of results
- Perform training and present veterinary information to host-nation veterinary personnel, canine handlers, trainers, and other stakeholders in regard to injury triage and prevention, as well as zoonoses
- Using a cloud-based, working-dog-specific electronic medical record system, maintain veterinary records, generate relevant reports, and track necessary data
- Provide veterinary expertise and inspections for facilities used to kennel Working Dog populations
- Effectively work in a team-based environment while also maintaining the ability to work independently
- Effectively communicate and consult with other veterinary teams supporting canine missions in remote locations
