$1,625 to $1,700 per week
About The Position
The Sterile Processing Technician (SPT) is responsible for the cleaning, sterilizing, inspecting, and packaging of surgical instruments, medical equipment, and other hospital supplies.
This role ensures that all instruments and equipment meet strict infection control standards, are properly sterilized, and are available for use in clinical settings such as the operating room, patient care units, and outpatient facilities.
Key Responsibilities :
Instrument Cleaning & Disinfection :
- Receive, clean, disinfect, and prepare surgical instruments, tools, and medical devices according to established protocols.
- Sort and inspect instruments for cleanliness and functionality, ensuring that damaged or worn items are reported for repair or replacement.
- Operate sterilization equipment (autoclaves, washers, etc.) in accordance with manufacturer guidelines and institutional policies.
Sterilization Process :
- Prepare and package instruments and medical supplies for sterilization, ensuring proper techniques are used to maintain sterility.
- Perform sterilization using steam, dry heat, or chemical sterilization methods based on equipment type.
- Ensure all sterilization records are accurately maintained, including sterilization cycle monitoring logs and quality assurance documentation.
Inventory Management :
- Assist in maintaining the inventory of sterile and non-sterile medical instruments and supplies.
- Ensure that all sterile supplies are properly labeled and stored to avoid contamination or expiration.
- Monitor stock levels and assist with ordering supplies to maintain adequate inventory levels.
Quality Control & Safety :
- Perform routine testing and checks to ensure equipment is functioning properly and in compliance with health regulations.
- Adhere to infection control protocols and safety standards to prevent cross-contamination and ensure patient safety.
- Report any issues related to sterilization failures, equipment malfunctions, or safety concerns to the supervisor or manager.
Collaboration & Communication :
- Communicate effectively with other departments to coordinate supply needs and resolve any issues regarding instrument preparation or sterilization.
Documentation & Compliance :
- Accurately document sterilization cycles, testing results, and other relevant information as required by regulatory agencies and institutional policies.
- Stay current with infection control practices and guidelines, and participate in ongoing education and training to enhance skills and knowledge.
