About the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Database Operations Lead to oversee and optimize database environments while bridging communication between clients, business stakeholders, and the offshore team in India. This role requires strong Oracle & AWS RDS DBA expertise, along with leadership abilities to manage operations, resolve critical issues, and drive database performance excellence.
The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker, a proactive problem solver, and an effective communicator who can ensure seamless collaboration between onsite and offshore teams while maintaining database reliability, security, and compliance.
Key Responsibilities Client & Stakeholder Management
- Serve as the primary liaison between clients and the offshore team.
- Communicate project updates, address concerns, and ensure alignment with business objectives.
- Represent the team in business meetings and leadership discussions.
Database Operations & Leadership
- Oversee database monitoring, backup, disaster recovery, and capacity planning.
- Ensure service level agreements (SLAs) and best practices are met.
- Provide continuity during leadership absences and handle escalations effectively.
- Manage and optimize Oracle, PostgreSQL, MySQL, and cloud-based database platforms (AWS RDS).
- Lead root cause analysis (RCA) and resolution of major incidents.
Performance Optimization & Compliance
- Conduct database performance reviews and proactively implement improvements.
- Ensure compliance with industry regulations and security standards.
- Drive automation initiatives to enhance efficiency using Shell scripts, Jenkins, Python, etc.
Onsite Presence & Collaboration
- Work onsite at Basking Ridge, NJ (2 days/week) and Sleepy Hollow, NY (1 day/week) to strengthen client relationships and address operational needs.
- Foster knowledge-sharing between onsite and offshore teams.
Qualifications Technical Expertise
- 15 years of experience in database administration within production environments.
- Strong expertise in Oracle, AWS RDS (PostgreSQL, Aurora, MySQL).
- Secondary skills in MSSQL, PostgreSQL, or MySQL preferred.
- Experience with AWS services: EC2, S3, VPC, Security, DMS, Terraform.
- Proficiency in performance tuning (OEM, AWR, ADDM, SQL tuning tools).
- Experience in database migrations, upgrades, and patching.
Leadership & Communication
- Proven ability to lead a team of 20 members from onsite.
- Strong stakeholder management and client-facing experience.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Preferred Experience
- Previous experience in managed services or a hybrid operations role.
- Knowledge of ITIL processes and handling P1/P2 critical issues.
- Hands-on experience with Neo4j, DocumentDB, DynamoDB is a plus.
