Junior Construction Estimator - Heavy Civil and Utility Construction - Base Salary to 100k / year - Bronx, NY
Our client is a heavy civil company that takes on utility, concrete, and sitework projects throughout the New York metropolitan area. Projects can encompass street construction, pier restoration, utility replacement, shore protection, substation work, etc.
In this role, the Junior Construction Estimator will be evaluating the scope of projects and developing a financial summary that stays within the budget and scheduled time frame. The Junior Construction Estimator will work closely with designers and engineers to create estimates, and will be involved in plan take-offs, weekly bid schedule, and preparation of all price breakdowns for management approval. Looking for motivated professionals who present well and follow up to complete all open tasks.
Responsibilities :
Participate in preparing work to be estimated by gathering proposals, blueprints, specifications, and related documents
Interface daily with senior management to build estimates and seek new bid opportunities
Complete estimates on time and complete in form for final review
Ability to follow all project specifications and standards to secure estimate accuracy
Ability to interface with all vendors and negotiate the best price outcome for the estimate
Attend any required site visits and meetings needed prior to bid submission
Attend all management meetings to meet productivity
Assist in meeting the goals of bid cost vs actual job cost and work with the team to meet job margins
Maintain the estimating computer system and paper backup system for management to review
Verify that vendor and subcontractor estimates fall within the defined scope
Create estimates for all necessary insurance considerations
Maintain client confidentiality
Qualifications :
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or similar
2 years in civil construction
Experience performing takeoffs and / or helping prepare bids
Knowledge in both private sector and NYC municipalities
Experience in either DOT, MTA, DDC and different aspects of heavy civil construction such as utility, concrete, structural steel, etc.
Proficiency with Excel and some construction management software. They use HCSS and MS Project
Must be able to work full time in the Bronx office (Hunts Point area), with occasional travel for site walks
Compensation :
Base salary in the 60k – 100k / year range
