Position Summary: Responsible for the delivery of skilled occupational therapy services to the patient in a setting following established plan of care. Improves patients self-reliance in those tasks essential to daily living; including special attention to instruction directed in ones own home and the use of the remaining functional ability to enjoy work, leisure and play.
Essential Job Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
1. Demonstrates, through documentation and practice, knowledge or normal human physiology, pathology and diagnosis related to the ICD-9, as it relates to occupational therapy.
2. Evaluates the occupational therapy rehab needs of patients in each setting and prepares plan of care under the physician's orders.
3. Demonstrates knowledge on billing including service and time based codes, RUGs, MDS rules, and other items necessary to complete successful billing for each patient.
4. Observes and reports to the physician any pertinent change in the patient's condition.
5. Initiates diagnostic, preventative, and rehabilitative procedures as appropriate to the patient's care and safety.
6. Makes referrals to other disciplines as deemed necessary.
7. Identifies and re-evaluates the patient's need for modification of treatment or initiation of additional services as needed.
8. Initiates home programs for patients, families, and/or caregivers with the occupational therapist as a facilitator, promotes family-centered therapy practices.
9. Designs orthotics as indicated by patient's conditions and instructs and advises patient, family, and other health care professional in regards to the proper use.
10. Treats the patients through the use of therapeutic activities designed to restore function and self-care activities for the purpose of improving function.
11. Instructs and advises patient, family, and other health care professional in the programs designed to increase strength and motor control.
12. Demonstrates and teaches alternative techniques to complete activities of daily living, proper transfers, and positioning.
13. Performs case management responsibilities as needed including supervision, coordination and facilitation of communication to the necessary party.
14. Discharges patients in accordance with established goals and plan of care and Al!star Therapies, Inc policy and procedures.
15. Maintains weekly schedule of patient visits based upon the individual patient's plan of care.
16. Attends or provides necessary communication in regards to regularly scheduled meeting to discuss patient care.
17. Keeps current with occupational therapy practices and provides proof of ongoing clinical practice through attending education seminars, in-services, and reviews current concepts and literature. Attends the required number of inservices held at the corporate office each year.
18. Orders and/or fabricates adaptive/assistive device and durable medical equipment.
19. Supervises the COTA in the delivery of care as specified by each setting.
20. Completes all documentation in a timely fashion, which follows all standards and policies set forth by Allstar Therapies Inc, and submits all paperwork within time frame identified by policy, and/or home health agency.
21. Follows all HIPAA Guidelines and practices confidentiality and respect for patient's rights.
22. Follows universal precautions to limit risk and exposure to foreign substance
23. Regularly provides updates regarding changes in items needed for employment including annual TB test, CPR card, etc.
24. Follows all guidelines set forth by facility and/or agency Policy and Procedure manual.
25. Perform other duties as assigned by the company.
Qualifications
Requirements/Education:
- Graduate from an accredited baccalaureate occupational therapist program.
- License to practice occupational therapy in the current state.
- Current registration with the American Occupational Therapy Association Experience is preferred in each setting.
Certificates, License, Registrations:
- Valid drivers license
- Licensed to practice in the state
- Certification in CPR
Degree of Travel: Frequent and often (may be applicable)
Language Skills: Ability to effectively communicate with clients, caregivers, family members, and medical professionals.
Degree of Disruption to Routine: It is to be expected that there will be moderate disruption to a daily routine. Although schedules are set accordingly on several occasions adaptations and other arrangements may be needed to service the patient and the contract for superior customer service and contract regulations.
Salary : $55 - $65
