What are the responsibilities and job description for the Telecom Lineman II position at Allstate Sales Group Inc?
The Telecom Lineman II at ASG is responsible for accurately reading prints, building new strands and fiber, lashing fiber to strand, and splicing fiber when necessary. This role also operates heavy equipment while assisting the Outside Plant (OSP) division in the construction of utility networks.

What you’ll do: (Including, but not limited to):
- Understand and practice all safety procedures in compliance with OSHA standards.
- Reads and interprets work orders, specifications, and engineering drawings to determine work to be done in a task sequence.
- Performs construction work including but not limited to digging holes, pole climbing, ladders on poles, placing and removing the cable, stringing wire/cable from pole to pole, and laying cable and conduit in the ground.
- Operates power equipment such as compressors, pumps, blowers, hydraulic diggers, and hydraulic aerial lifts mounted on trucks.
- Uses test equipment to check for gas in manholes; may be required to empty water and other debris from manholes.
- Dismantles, moves, and removes aerial, underground, or building wire, cable-associated equipment, and hardware.
- Connects wires and cables to terminals and attaches/detaches various kinds of hardware to wires, cables, buildings, or poles.
- Responds to and participates in emergency and outage situations that require heavy construction capabilities.
- Makes sure all work is performed safely ensuring the customer and public are in compliance with DOT, Cal-OSHA, OSHA, NESC, and Go95 Standards.
- Completes daily production reports and As-Built documentation on print.
- Completes all required paperwork and reporting in a timely manner as required by the company.
- Assist others to complete their skilled tasks more effectively.
- Clean and prepare the construction site for work, remove debris and possible hazards; locate and verify all utilities before and during construction.
- Utilizes hand tools to complete tasks as needed.
- Perform restoration back to existing conditions, place seed and straw.
- Identify utilities and monitor digging by the dig crew to prevent utility hits.
- Clean and maintain equipment.
- Understand the full scope of the project and all aspects of OSP construction.
- Restock trucks with supplies and ensure the crew has the proper tools and supplies to complete the job.
- Performs other duties as assigned, which are reasonably within the scope of the responsibilities of this job classification
What you’ll need:
General
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent required
- 3 years’ experience in the utility construction industry as a lineman
- General knowledge of construction practices
- Able to work extended hours, weekends, and holidays when required
- Able to work in a fast-paced environment
- Self-motivated and able to work independently
- Proficient with Microsoft Office suite
Technical
- CDL with medical card class “A”
- Ability to identify and distinguish colors of utility flags and markings on the ground
Working Conditions:
- The work often requires that you drive utility vehicles and work outdoors.
- Must work under challenging weather conditions, such as in snow, wind, rain, and extreme heat and cold.
- Travel and weekend work may be required
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to work in aerial buckets that have a restriction of 300 pounds with PPE & tools.
- Ability to lift and move up to 70 pounds, including the ability to carry, climb and operate an extension ladder (approx. 28 ft high and 75 pounds).
