Our Mission at Ally is to fight to end homelessness by providing optimal client centered support, advocacy, safe and affordable housing to homeless adults with severe housing barriers in Minnesota.

What we do:

We are passionate about building and enhancing dedicated relationships with landlords and tenants. We specialize in assisting, supporting, and advocating for adults that have severe housing barriers. We use a housing-first approach to end homelessness. We specialize in coordination and communication between landlords and tenants. We assist participants by providing necessary resources and referrals to meet the participant’s needs and goals. Participants undergo an intensive screening process to ensure the requirements are met for the program. We assist participants with maintaining housing by budgeting, obtaining household needs, and coordinating with county and private providers.

The Supportive Housing Advocate is responsible for ongoing needs assessment, personal goal plans, implementation, support, information, referral and advocacy for individuals who are in the Supportive Housing program. This position requires the ability to connect with clients who have experienced long-term homelessness, mental and chemical health concerns, as well as physical health problems as a result of their life on the street. This position will influence and recognize positive behavior changes and will identify problems and obstacles that threaten to undermine the client’s self-sufficiency.

  • Collaborate with the Housing Director to assist clients in the housing application process.
  • Assist clients in navigating the numerous providers of mental health, chemical health and physical health services, as well as any other community resources available to the client.
  • Keep accurate, up to date documentation on all clients including but not limited to, goal plans, case notes
  • Facilitate relationship building between landlords/caretakers and clients.
  • Utilize harm reduction interventions and methodologies to provide client centered services that keep them in housing. Utilize skills regarding crisis prevention and intervention.
  • Utilize Motivational Interviewing techniques and skills to assist participants in moving through the sages of change, toward the direction needed to meet the participant’s goals.
  • Assist clients to build upon their strengths and recognize their needs in a respectful manner.
  • Visit and inspect client apartments on a monthly basis to ensure that they are properly maintained.
  • Promote community involvement and peer support.
  • Work as part of a team to plan and develop resident programs, attend regular internal and external agency meetings.
  • Be able and willing to assist those moving into a home from homelessness. This often includes lifting houshold and furniture items

Required Knowledge & Experience:

  • Knowledge of Evidence-Based practices related to all fields in homelessness, mental health, and chemical health
  • Ability and willingness to lift 50 lbs .
  • Knowledge of and experience working with various aspects of diversity in the community
  • Knowledge and/or experience recognizing signs drug/alcohol abuse and relapse
  • Knowledge/Experience with mental health crisis intervention skills/techniques
  • Knowledge/experience with various community support services and access
  • Prefer at least 3-5 years of experience delivering services to those experiencing long-term homelessness, mental health issues, chemical health issues,etc. Excellent verbal and written skills required. Ability to work independently and collaboratively. Knowledge of supportive housing and how to provide supportive housing resources. Valid driver’s license, proof of insurance and reliable vehicle required. Education and/or Experience: Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work (or related field) preferred, but work experience may be considered as a substitute for some education

Must pass background through MN DHS. Must have valid driver's license.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $45,000.00 - $58,000.00 per year
