What does a Senior Logistics Specialist do?
The Senior Logistics Specialist will be responsible for coordinating and managing the transportation and distribution of goods, including the complex logistics involved in moving oversized and overweight shipments. This includes securing specialized transportation, obtaining necessary permits, and ensuring compliance with regulations. The Senior Logistics Specialist will work closely with suppliers, manufacturers, and customers to ensure timely delivery of products. The Senior Logistics Specialist will also be responsible for maintaining accurate records of inventory and shipments, as well as monitoring and analyzing logistics performance metrics.
Position Details:
Location: On Site Slingerlands, NY
Work Schedule: 40 hours, 8:00 AM- 5:00 PM, Monday-Friday (some weekend / after-hours support / on-call rotation may be required)
Position Classification: Full-Time; Salaried Exempt, Entry-Level
Compensation: $55,000 - $65,000
Physical Demands: Sitting, typing, walking, and talking on the phone.

Responsibilities:
- Develop comprehensive logistics plans for oversized and heavy haul shipments, considering dimensions, weight, route restrictions, and delivery deadlines
- Analyze potential routes to identify the most efficient and cost-effective options, factoring in bridge clearances, weight restrictions, and road conditions
- Manage all aspects of the shipment process, from initial planning to final delivery, ensuring adherence to schedules and budgets
- Obtain all necessary permits and licenses for oversized and heavy haul shipments, ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations
- Stay up-to-date on relevant regulations and industry standards, ensuring all shipments comply with safety and legal requirements
- Prepare and maintain accurate documentation, including bills of lading, permits, insurance certificates, and customs paperwork
- Identify and resolve any issues or delays that may arise during the shipment process, such as weather delays, traffic congestion, or equipment breakdowns
- Assess potential risks associated with oversized and heavy haul shipments and develop contingency plans to mitigate those risks
- Coordinate and manage the transportation and distribution of goods domestic
- Work closely with suppliers, manufacturers, and customers to ensure timely delivery of products
- Maintain accurate records of inventory and shipments
- Monitor and analyze logistics performance metrics
- Identify areas for improvement and implement solutions to optimize logistics processes
- Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and laws
- Collaborate with other departments to ensure seamless logistics operations
- Eliminate or minimize risk exposure for Allyn and customers
- Track and resolve freight claims
- May be required to participate in industry publication and articles
