Position Summary
The assistant athletic trainer is a full-time 10-month position (July-May). Alma College is a member of The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) and the NCAA Division III. This position will assist in providing injury prevention, recognition, evaluation, appropriate medical referral, treatment and rehabilitation for student athletes (male and female).

DEPARTMENT: Athletics
Position Summary
The assistant athletic trainer is a full-time 10-month position (July-May). Alma College is a member of The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) and the NCAA Division III. This position will assist in providing injury prevention, recognition, evaluation, appropriate medical referral, treatment and rehabilitation for student athletes (male and female).
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: – may include, but not limited to the following:
- Provide athletic training services under the supervision of the physician, to include evaluation, managing, treating, and rehabilitating injuries as needed or prescribed
- Accurate maintenance of student athlete medical records
- Serve a preceptor and provide direct supervision of the athletic training students in the Central Michigan University, CAATE Accredited Athletic Training Education Program (ATEP) and athletic training student aide
- Provide home game and practice medical coverage
- Occasional travel with athletic teams
- Assist head athletic trainer with daily athletic training room operations
- Serve as a liaison with parents, sports medicine physicians, athletic trainers, coaches, and administration staff
- Participate in all pre-participation sport screenings and the medical clearance
- File secondary insurance claims through BMI
- Additional duties as assigned
- Master’s degree or related field experience
- Board of Certification for the Athletic Trainer (BOC)
- Current First Aid/CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer
- Current/eligible for Michigan licensure
- Entry level experience with collegiate athletic training department
- Ability to communicate effectively to various groups and individuals
- Knowledge of NCAA Division III and MIAA compliance and conference rules, and an understanding of the NCAA Division III student athlete philosophy
- Ability to work weekends and evenings, along with travel
- A valid driver’s license
- Ability to manage multiple tasks
- Ability to fulfill essential functions of the position
- Master’s degree in athletic training or related field
- Experience in a residential campus environment
- Experience working with underrepresented, first-generation, Pell-eligible, and diverse populations
