What are the responsibilities and job description for the Anodizing Chemical Process Technician position at ALMAG Aluminum?
Directly responsible to the General Manager and/or a delegate. The Anodizing Technician is responsible for maintaining the proper chemical concentrations in the process of the anodizing lines as well as wastewater treatment which is critical and key component to the success and flow of operations.

- Responsible for maintaining and conducting checks on the systems and the full chemistry of the line.
- Operate all equipment in a safe and effective manner and immediately report any deficiencies
- Ensure all chemicals are replenishment and adjusted according to the requirements
- Maintain and handle chemicals to ensure proper PH, alkalinity and temperature of tanks
- Collect and analyze samples in adherence to testing schedule
- Records all test results and communicates any deficiencies or outliers
- Make the necessary adjustments to maintain operating specifications in the anodizing process through chemical additions or the operation of equipment
- Maintain an inventory of chemicals needed for the chemistry of the system as well as the wastewater process. Order chemicals in a timely manner as required
- Monitor the wastewater treatment system and report items of concern
- Perform sample analysis using appropriate test procedure
- Conduct regular inspections of chemicals in all areas, the storage containers, waste treatment and replenishment stations and top-up as needed
- Maintain daily and weekly hazardous waste inspection log sheet
- Keep areas tidy and free of hazards.
- Keeps the PH equipment calibrated
- Adhere to all safety regulations, uses proper PPE at all times
- Provide training to new and/or junior employees with a focus on performing work in a safe, efficient, and quality minded manner
- Perform maintenance activities on certain pieces of equipment within the anodizing process
- Perform other duties as required
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Experience
- Grade 12 education
- Post-Secondary Degree in chemistry or technical chemical handling and/or relevant experience
- Minimum 3 years' experience in an anodizing facility or manufacturing environment
- Technical Skills/Competence
- Ability to lift 40 pounds
- Manual dexterity
- Operate required tools and equipment in a safe and responsible manner
- Knowledge of appropriate materials, methods, and the tools required in the performance of work
- Attention to detail and a critical eye for identifying subtle colour differences
- Excellent time management and organizational skills
- Commitment to quality and safety
- Good command of the English language
- Ability to understand written and oral work instructions
- Treats fellow team members and management respectfully
- Ability to work without direct supervision
- Standard knowledge of Microsoft Suite of products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
