Job Summary

The Accountant is responsible for managing and completing all bookkeeping and accounting workflows for the organization and working alongside outside CPA and accounting advisory teams to maintain the organization’s financial records to provide a clear, accurate picture of the organization’s fiscal health.


Responsibilities

General Accounting and Bookkeeping

  • Manage the organization’s overall accounting systems, workflows, procedures, and policies to maintain recordkeeping of all financial transactions and documents; ensure compliance with GAAP principles.
  • Ensure that consistent practices are used throughout the organization to maintain the financial wellness and integrity of the organization’s systems and books.
  • Manage all aspects of general ledger including recording, reconciling, and journal entries; review, document, and resolve variances.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual general ledger account reconciliations for all types of accounts, including bank, credit card, accruals, prepaids, fixed assets, and intangibles to ensure accurate reporting and general ledger reliability.
  • Oversee and complete the period-end and month-end close activities and prepare accurate and timely financial statements.
  • Perform monthly bank settlements and close clearing accounts.
  • Manage and forecast the organization’s cash flow through oversight of accounts payable and accounts receivable functions.
  • Oversee and coordinate bank deposits with operations team; identify and minimize risks.
  • Record fixed asset acquisitions and dispositions in the general ledger.
  • Calculate and record depreciation of fixed assets on a monthly basis.
  • Analyze trends, variances, and opportunities for improvement; create projections with different scenarios and prepare appropriate reports.
  • Develop and maintain business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls; minimize financial risk and identify areas of opportunities to better safeguard assets
  • Oversee the relationship and work of third-party accountants (PABS)
  • Assist in maintaining current financial software and implementing new systems.
  • Assist in planning, implementing, and supervising the organization’s financial strategy.
  • Perform other ad hoc analysis, reporting, and special projects as assigned.

Accounts Payables

  • Manage accounts payable for all departments by reconciling, verifying, and processing invoices in an accurate and timely manner for weekly payments.
  • Review coding of invoices for proper allocation to departments and expense categories.
  • Match incoming invoices with all corresponding supporting documentation; identify and resolve any discrepancies between purchase orders and invoices.
  • Review and reconcile vendor statements on a monthly basis.
  • Review and reconcile monthly A/P accruals on a monthly basis.
  • Manage vendor files and maintain a good relationship with all vendors.
  • Support internal controls and approvals for check, ACH, and wire payments
  • Collaborate with department managers with any accounts payable questions and vendor issues as needed.

Accounts Receivables

  • Record and reconcile sales of F&B and merchandise operations on Toast and Shopify.
  • Generate and issue customer invoices and credit memos in Ekos and accounting systems; review for accuracy.
  • Manage and track customer balances, send account statements, and communicate with customers to request and collect payments; prepare monthly A/R reports.
  • Research payment inquiries from customers and assist with payment reconciliation.
  • Verify customer pricing, discounts, and other charges; enter approved billing adjustments as necessary.

Inventory, Payroll, Budgets, and Taxes

  • Monitor, record, analyze, and control inventory levels and movements.
  • Assist with taking physical inventories when necessary.
  • Reconcile hours worked for hourly employees and report payroll for all locations and entities to payroll service provider in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Review employee expense reports and prepare employee reimbursements.
  • Review and process licensing and commission payouts.
  • Accurately accrue and record PTO for eligible employees.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining annual budgets for each department.
  • Achieve superior profitable performance by monitoring and ensuring adherence to established budgets.
  • Accurately manage and file all monthly and annual GET filings.
  • Accurately manage and file all TTB tax filings.
  • Maintain vendor records with up-to-date W9’s and COIs to prepare and file timely year-end 1099 reporting.
  • Prepare tax records and assist the organization’s CPA to file accurate and timely tax returns for the organization.

Operations Support

  • Prepare weekly sales, cost of goods sold, and labor reports for review by brewery, F&B, and Merchandise management teams.
  • Track, review, and report key performance indicators, financial metrics, and financial statements; partner with key operations leaders to reach department goals.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement, cost reduction, revenue enhancement, and capital investments; develop and implement solutions.
  • Guide implementation of new financial initiatives and generate reports to track progress with operations teams.
  • Assist in maintaining optimal product pricing for multiple tiers and customer groups.
  • Copy and scan various documents and maintain electronic and physical filing systems for the organization according to company policies and government retention requirements.
  • Answer back office-related calls and emails; retrieve and process incoming mail.
  • Collaborate with all departments to streamline financial processes and provide other administrative support as needed.


Skills & Qualifications

Required

  • A bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field.
  • Minimum 4 years of experience in a similar role.
  • Excellent understanding of all accounting procedures, best practices, and rules/principles including GAAP.
  • Proficiency in bookkeeping, financial planning, analysis, and reporting.
  • Expert knowledge and proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
  • Proficiency in working with QuickBooks or other accounting software.
  • Ability to read loan documents, agreements, and other pertinent documents to understand their relationship to financial statements and company financial performance.
  • Technologically savvy with aptitude to learn new systems; exhibits proactive behavior towards potential issues to solve problems with technology.
  • Analytical, detail-oriented, organized, accurate, consistent, and dependable
  • Great interpersonal skills with ability to effectively communicate financial data, performance, and principles to a wide variety of audiences
  • A passion for beer and an understanding of the beer industry.

Ideal

  • CPA Certification
  • Experience with the restaurant, beer manufacturing, or beverage distribution industry.
  • Experience with Ekos or other beverage supplier management software.
  • Experience with Toast, Shopify, or other point-of-sales systems.
  • Experience with enterprise-level accounting software and/or implementing new accounting systems.
  • Exhibits leadership qualities who can become an effective financial leader for the organization.


Compensation

  • Base Salary Range: $70,000 - $90,000 depending on experience
