What are the responsibilities and job description for the Meal Transporter position at Aloha Harvest?
Founded over 25 years ago to tackle challenges regarding food insecurity and waste, Aloha Harvest (AH) is building a more sustainable and resilient food system by rescuing quality excess food to nourish and strengthen the community. Since inception, AH has recovered and redistributed over 38 million pounds of food that would otherwise have been discarded, helping to meet the needs of tens of thousands of people who face hunger daily. AH offers pick-up and delivery services year-round, 7 days a week, completely free of charge.
The primary responsibility of this position represent ALOHA HARVEST in a professional, dependable, and personable manner, ensuring food safety and excellent customer service while picking up meals and delivering it to our contracted recipients meeting timely restrictions.
Duties include the following:
1. Safely operate the Aloha Harvest vehicles (18-foot refrigerated box truck,) on a daily basis to and from assigned destinations.
2. Meet time restrictions to pick up and deliver meals. Responsible to communication delays immediately.
3. Maintain regular contact and coordination with the Office Staff. Must answer calls or text messages immediately, or as soon as is safely possible. Cellular phones and iPads are issued as a business tool and are to be used for business purposes only.
6. Maintains proper standards of cleanliness & sanitation so that truck is CLEAN AT ALL TIMES. Periodic inspections may be made to ensure compliance. The trucks display our logo and are moving billboard advertisements representing Aloha Harvest. Therefore, drivers are required to drive safely and with aloha at all times.
7. Perform a ‘pre-trip’ and ‘post-trip’ inspection each time the truck is used. Responsible for checking oil, transmission fluid, power steering, water, etc. at least once a week or at every fill up. Reports any potential vehicle problems to the Lead Driver and/or Operations Manager.
8. Perform other duties as assigned by the Operations Manager or Executive Director.
Qualifications include:
1. Valid Hawaii Driver's license with a clean abstract. Type IV or CDL license is a plus.
2. Ability to follow detailed instructions and standard good business practices.
3. Must be alert, safety-conscious, and courteous at all times.
4. Must be able to lift 50-pounds of weight on a regular basis.
5. Current "DOT medical card" (or ability to obtain at your own expense).
