Founded over 25 years ago to tackle challenges regarding food insecurity and waste, Aloha Harvest (AH) is building a more sustainable and resilient food system by rescuing quality excess food to nourish and strengthen the community. Since inception, AH has recovered and redistributed over 30 million pounds of food that would otherwise have been discarded, helping to meet the needs of tens of thousands of people who face hunger daily. AH offers pick-up and delivery services year-round, 7 days a week, completely free of charge.

The primary responsibility of the Driver/Driver’s Helper is to represent ALOHA HARVEST in a professional, dependable, and personable manner, ensuring food safety and excellent customer service while picking up, recording, and delivering food from a variety of donors to social service agencies throughout O`ahu.

Duties include the following:

1. Safely operate the Aloha Harvest vehicles (18-foot refrigerated box truck, cargo van) & equipment (pallet jack, lift gate, hand trucks) during the weekend. Drivers are responsible for their assigned route, which will, in most cases, encompass a six to eight-hour day. Must be flexible with regard to additional donor pick-ups added to their routes and may experience overtime due to changes to the schedule and/or routes.

2. Pick up all food donated to Aloha Harvest in a professional manner, inspecting all items, thereby insuring that they meet the standards specified by the Department of Health. All drivers will notify the Operations Manager or Office Staff of any problems with storage or spoilage.

3. Maintain regular contact and coordination with the Office Staff. Must answer calls or text messages immediately, or as soon as is safely possible. Cellular phones and iPads are issued as a business tool and are to be used for business purposes only.

4. Deliver food to Aloha Harvest member agencies only, and must be made at location indicated on agency application, and take the responsibility to inform the Operations Manager or Office Staff of any changes in the standard routes, schedule and process.

5. Responsible to trouble shoot problems in pick-ups and drop-offs and immediately inform the Operations Manager and Office Staff of any logistical problems in their daily route to include any issues on the road (traffic, accidents, breakdowns, etc.), so that the necessary arrangements can be made.

6. Maintains proper standards of cleanliness & sanitation so that truck is CLEAN AT ALL TIMES. Periodic inspections may be made to ensure compliance. The trucks display our logo and are moving billboard advertisements representing Aloha Harvest. Therefore, drivers are required to drive safely and with aloha at all times.

7. Perform a ‘pre-trip’ and ‘post-trip’ inspection each time the truck is used. Responsible for checking oil, transmission fluid, power steering, water, etc. at least once a week or at every fill up. Reports any potential vehicle problems to the Lead Driver and/or Operations Manager.

8. Responsible to have the truck stocked with necessary supplies at all times. (e.g receipts, zip lock bags, foil pans, shrink wrap, masks, gloves, cleaning supplies, etc.). Notifies the Office Staff of needed supplies.

9. Accurately record pickup & delivery information, including detailed notes, on mobile application.
