Position Summary
The Program Specialist provides support duties related to medical processes and records, may assist with internal testing and screening, order and stock medical supplies, and take people supported to medical appointments. As scheduled, provides care to people supported and assists them in leading self-directed lives. The key responsibilities listed below are representative and not all inclusive. This position is responsible to: people supported, Quality Development Director.
Key Responsibilities
- Incorporate our values and mission into delivery of all services.
- Assist people supported with scheduling and attending medical appointments and labs; schedule follow-up appointments if needed, and document appointments, medications, and other information as needed in Therap.
- Communicate regularly with Program Coordinators, nursing staff, and other team members as needed or required to ensure programming is being followed and continuity of care is provided.
- Knowledge of administrative practices and procedures as well as applicable regulations, guidelines, and policy pertaining to position and services provided; maintain documentation and submit paperwork in a timely manner; protect and preserve operations by following HIPAA guidelines.
- Provide active care to person(s) supported when needed; serve as an internal advocate for the persons supported and facilitate community integration.
- Participate in CQL (Council on Quality and Leadership), HCBS (Home and Community Based Service), and other compliance surveys as directed.
- Assure all paperwork and reporting is completed in a timely manner, maintained, and submitted when necessary.
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with persons supported, staff, guardian(s), and community involved with our facilities and persons.
Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills, and Qualification
Education and Experience:
High school diploma, GED, or suitable equivalent; college or an associate degree in a related field is desirable or in absence of degree, equivalent experience in Developmental Disabilities; 1 year of experience in a similar facility and/or DD certified is preferred.

Physical Requirements:
Strength: Sufficient to assist with lifting and transferring a person(s) and perform CPR. Ability to lift twenty (20) lbs. Moving, lifting or transferring of person(s) may involve lifting of up to fifty (50) lbs., as well as assist with weights of more than one hundred (100) lbs.
Mobility: Sufficient mobility to bend, stoop and bend down to the floor, ability to move around rapidly and in small, confined areas.
