$40 per hour, 37.5 hours per week

Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced accounting professional for a temporary role to strengthen our finance function following the unexpected leave of the full-time accountant. The successful candidate will conduct a comprehensive assessment of our current financial status, bring reporting up to date and manage daily accounting operations in collaboration with our finance assistant.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Assessment & Cleanup
- Evaluate current accounting processes, procedures, and financial controls
- Review historical financial records and identify any gaps or discrepancies
- Develop and implement strategies to bring all financial reporting current
- Assess compliance with accounting standards and regulatory requirements
- Recommend improvements to existing financial processes and systems
Financial Reporting & Analysis
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
- Reconcile SAGE & other software systems, investment reports, bank statements, and Payroll/Benefit reports to various general ledger accounts; investigate and correct discrepancies as needed.
- Prepare numerous month-end journal entries and reports from the various SAGE systems
- Create comprehensive financial reports for management
- Analyze financial data to provide insights on business performance
- Ensure accuracy and timeliness of all financial reporting
Day-to-Day Operations
- Process accounts payable and receivable
- Manage cash flow and banking relationships
- Handle payroll processing and related tax compliance
- Maintain accurate records of all financial transactions
- Support budget preparation and monitoring
- Mentor and guide the finance assistant in daily operations
- Provide information as needed for third-party audit
- Ensure compliance with accounting principles, regulatory requirements, and reporting guidelines.
Desired Qualifications
- 2-5 years’ experience in accounting
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
- Advanced proficiency in Sage 50/Peachtree or similar accounting software
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft 365 Suite (Excel, Outlook, Word)
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting standards
- Proven experience in financial assessment and process improvement
- Strong interpersonal skills, including written and oral communication
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
- Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills
