POSITION SUMMARY
The Certified Welding Inspector is responsible for inspecting and evaluating the quality of welds to ensure they meet specified standards and codes.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
- Inspect and Evaluate Welds: Conduct thorough inspections of welds performed on structures and materials to ensure they meet safety standards and regulations.
- Compliance Assurance: Interpret and apply relevant codes, standards, specifications, and procedures to ensure compliance.
- Documentation: Prepare detailed reports of inspection findings and recommend necessary improvements.
- Visual Inspections: Perform visual inspections of welds and welding procedures.
- Nondestructive Testing (NDT): Utilize NDT methods to evaluate welds.
- Collaboration: Work with engineers and project managers to address any issues or discrepancies that arise during the inspection process.
- Training and Mentoring: Train and mentor junior inspectors and welders.
- Continuous Learning: Maintain professional knowledge and stay updated with industry developments through continuous learning.
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS
- Extensive knowledge of welding processes, industry standards, and safety protocols.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, excellent understanding of safety protocols, and the ability to interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
- Experience with various welding techniques (e.g., MIG, TIG, ARC).
- Proficiency in using computer software for compiling and submitting inspection data.
- Strong communication skills for reporting findings and coordinating with project teams.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
- Ability to lift up to 50lbs. unassisted.
- Ability to stand, walk, and bend for extended periods.
- Able to work independently and within a team.
- Excellent attention to detail and the ability to maintain quality standards.
- Experience with measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, and gauges.
- Familiarity with a variety of cutting tools, toolholders, and work holding devices.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Must have a strong sense of urgency, be time-sensitive and highly motivated.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting engineering drawings, blueprints, and GD&T symbols.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make decisions quickly and effectively.
- Strong sense of time organization and urgency.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
- Certification: Must hold a valid Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification from the American Welding Society (AMS).
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience as a certified welding inspector.
- High school diploma or equivalent
