Summary:

This position functions as part of the program management team. Specific responsibilities include: assist and supervise classroom staff in the development and implementation of individual and group behavior management programs; assist and supervise classroom staff in the development and implementation of individual and group academic programs/plans; supervision of curriculum and related issues; conduct routine observations in classrooms; write and present, in conjunction with the Program Director, annual appraisals for the Educational Specialist position; participation on ENCOMH committees, etc. as required; assist the Alpha School management team in the operation of the program.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Reports to work as scheduled on a regular and reliable basis.

Must not appear on the APS/CPS Registry for abuse/neglect, or have been dismissed from prior employment due to suspected abuse/neglect.

Must be able to pass a criminal background check.

Must meet and maintain physical requirements of the position which include 75 pound lifting requirement.

Must assume responsibilities of Acting Facility Director in the absence of the Director, Transition Specialist or as required by the Facility Director.

Assist staff in writing individual behavior management programs for students with approval by the Facility Director as needed.

Monitor behavioral programs and review data at least monthly with classroom staff, and provide recommendations for program revisions as needed.

Conduct classroom observations and/or review videotaped observations with staff to assess the efficacy and skill level of staff regarding their behavioral interventions with students, and provide feedback as needed. This is to be coordinated with the Facility Director as required. Document a minimum of four (4) observations per school year for Education Program and Education Specialists. Responsible for developing performance appraisals for those positions. Each observation is to be reviewed and discussed individually with the respective Specialist and used cumulatively as part of the annual appraisal process. Provide training to staff to successfully implement behavior programs and/or educational programs in coordination with the Program Director. This is to include in-service training, ad hoc training, training of new staff, and other training as required by the Program Director.

Report to the Facility Director on a regularly scheduled basis for consultation and review regarding student referrals, transition progress, and staff performance.

Assist Facility Director and Program Management Team with ongoing program planning (behavioral, educational, recreational).

Attend intake meetings, professional staff meetings, and meetings with parents to obtain information and provide input as needed.

Receive, review, and track all program incident reports. Provide feedback to staff as needed.

Maintain all quality assurance functions in relation to incident reports.

Report to Program Director as required.

Consult with staff, students, and parents to develop effective behavior management programs that are comprehensive and coordinated between school and home.

Coordinate with Program Consultants, Program Staff, Program Director to provide case reviews of client programsand individual education plans.

Follow Behavior Management Policy and Procedure in all treatment related communications with staff, parents, and collaterals.

Review Problem Solving Sheets and provide feedback to staff and students regarding attention to relevant detail associated with the specific presenting problem as addressed on the problem solving sheet.

Participate on the Level System Review Board as required by Alpha School Director. Collaborate with the reintegration/transition team in the planning and implementation of the return of students to less restrictive settings (i.e., public school setting).

Participate in the referral screening process as required by the Program Director.

OTHER JOB DUTIES:

Possesses and maintain a valid driver's license, with no major violations (including DUI) in the last five years and no more than three moving violations and/or at-fault accidents in the last three years.

Must report all moving violations, on or off duty, where a citation or ticket is issued to management within the next working day.

Drive an agency van to transport students when needed or required.

Must maintain certification in basic First Aid and CPR.

Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

Master's Degree MS Teaching the Emotionally Disturbed or Public School Administration (preferred); a Master's Degree in Social Work, Counseling, or related human service area will be considered. Bachelor's Degree in Special Education, Education, learning Disabled, Psychology, or related human services and a current Nebraska Teaching Certificate are required.

A Special education endorsement is highly preferred. If not already endorsed in Special Education, the incumbent must be willing to complete required coursework and take a minimum of two (2) courses a fiscal year.

Minimum of four (4) years’ experience working with severely emotionally and behaviorally disturbed children and/or adolescents.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of and ability to utilize and evaluate token economies and level systems.

Knowledge of and ability to effectively use applied behavior analysis with SED students.

Knowledge of and ability to apply behavioral principles and constructs to complex family and individual circumstances.

Knowledge of and ability to use computer applications in conjunction with behavioral interventions.

Ability to pinpoint and operationally define behaviors for a useful data collection system on classroom programs and individual cases.

Ability to systematically assess (functionally analyze) environmental determinants of behavior, as well as consequences maintaining or delimiting behaviors.

Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with professionals from a broad spectrum of disciplines.

Ability to write clear and concise behavioral programs in easy to understand language. Ability to analyze baseline of program data to effectively design, monitor, and alter programs.

Knowledge of ethical and legal issues relating to services to Special Education students. Ability to teach specific skills needed to implement and successfully conduct behavioral and/or educational programs.

Ability to devise and interpret educational and behavioral change strategies in accordance with the Agency's policies.

Demonstrated competency with various teaching techniques and strategies.

Ability to interpret behaviors and learning problems which are presented by students and help staff to effectively address them.

Ability to interpret and utilize different teaching and learning styles in order to best meet the individual needs of the student.

Ability to interpret academic testing data and apply said information to individualized curriculum development.

Awareness of Agency Policy and Procedure, Rule 51, 302 Regulations, NOSS, DHHS Day Care Regulations, and CACFP Regulations.

Knowledge and ability to use basic principles of adult education for effective in-service training.

Ability and willingness to tactfully and effectively present recommendations and maintain good working relations with program staff and parents.

Ability to meet and maintain physical requirements of the position which include 75 pound lifting requirement.

Ability to organize responsibilities and time in an effective and efficient manner.

Ability to establish collaborative relationships and effectively serve on a team which includes program staff, program administrators, students, parents, school officials, and other collaterals.

Must possess and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator's license from the State of residence (Nebraska or Iowa) or become licensed in that State within 30 days of date of hire.

Must maintain a certificate of completion in "Safe Kids Buckle Up" and use these procedures while transporting Alpha School students.

Must complete orientation in the Alpha School methods training for interacting with children and the Alpha School discipline policies and procedures.

Complete training and facilitate good nutrition and food safety.

Display and teach infectious control practices including proper hand washing techniques, personal hygiene, and disposal of infectious materials.

Must possess and maintain certification concerning the identification of abuse, neglect, and sexual abuse of children, and be knowable of the state's reporting requirements. Understand and follow "school age only" center regulations and requirements.

Ability to follow Emergency Preparedness evacuation plans in the event of a fire, tornado or in the event of a man made or natural disaster.

Maintain certification in basic First Aid and CPR and be able to perform these duties as needed.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:

Must meet and maintain physical requirements of the position which include 75 pound lifting requirement.

Must be able to perform First Aid and CPR when needed.

Ability to provide transportation to students, in a variety of weather and traffic conditions, in a safe, comfortable, and responsible manner in an agency van.
