A-Class Welder - Fabricator Lead

Job Overview:

The 1st Class Welder / Fabricator Lead position encompasses fabrication and production welding and quality assurance responsibilities as well as Leadership and assignment responsibilities for a small team of Welders and Fitters on specific projects assigned by the Shop Foreman and management.  Primary duties include analyzing blueprints, welding jobs, maintaining production standards and producing consistent and accurate work with a high-level attention to detail.

Responsibilities:

• Weld complex assemblies to AWS and ASME standards with exceptional quality.
• Analyze blueprints to maintain production standards, ensure consistent and accurate work, and mark up drawings for future reference or changes by the engineering department, reflecting the actual ‘as-built’ versus ‘as-drawn’ design.
• Prepare materials for welding by cutting and grinding for proper assembly.
• Lead and assign tasks to a team of up to 4 Welders/Fitters on specific projects.
• Provide feedback on processes, design, materials, and rigging requirements for large assemblies.
• Ensure correct documentation and procedures are followed in adherence to QA and authorized inspection hold points.
• Design and produce fixtures to hold, align, and assemble fabrication projects within tolerances.
• Produce a consistent level of precise and accurate work daily.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, it is required to frequently stand, sit, twist and use hands, fingers and wrists to grip, twist and bend to operate controls, welders and hand tools to complete assigned tasks.  It is occasionally required to walk, stoop, pull objects, kneel and climb stairs.  It is required to occasionally reach high and low and lift and set items weighing 35 to 75 lbs. in some circumstances.

Work Environment:

Work is performed indoors, in an industrial manufacturing open air environment exposed to the elements from a temperature and humidity perspective and at times outside as weather permits.  This role is regularly exposed to noise levels requiring hearing protection at times, which should be used as needed to protect hearing. This role is responsible for moving equipment and mechanical equipment, such as positioning rolls, forklifts, overhead and mobile cranes and chain and strap slings as needed. The work environmental characteristics described will be experienced regularly while performing the essential functions of this job on a daily basis.

Minimum Qualifications:

• 5-7 years of experience in fabrication / welding, large complex assemblies.
• The ability to pass preemployment welding tests, with X-Ray examination.
• Ability to read and understand blueprints, including welding diagrams and symbols as well as written and verbal instructions from engineering and management.
• Ability to use hand tools as needed to complete the tasks as assigned.
• Demonstrate a thorough understanding of fabrication processes, techniques, and safety protocols, and effectively lead a team of up to 4 members with varying experience levels to complete projects safely and efficiently.
• Licensures and Certifications: High school, trade school in welding techniques.  In lieu of trade school, industry experience of 5-7 years will be considered as qualified with appropriate verifiable references presented by the candidate.
• Education: High School diploma or equivalent.
