The Industrial Hygienist will be responsible for developing, implementing, and managing comprehensive industrial hygiene programs to ensure compliance with all applicable regulations and protect the health and safety of our employees. This role will involve identifying, evaluating, and controlling potential workplace hazards related to chemical, physical, biological, and ergonomic factors within a pet food manufacturing environment.
DESCRIPTION OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Develop, implement, and maintain industrial hygiene programs, policies, and procedures in accordance with OSHA, EPA, and other relevant regulations.
- Conduct comprehensive workplace assessments and hazard surveys to identify potential health and safety risks.
- Evaluate and control employee exposures to various hazards, including dusts (grain, feed, etc.), chemicals (cleaning agents, disinfectants, etc.), noise, temperature extremes, and ergonomic stressors.
- Implement and manage exposure monitoring programs, including air sampling, noise monitoring, and other relevant techniques.
- Recommend and implement engineering controls, administrative controls, and personal protective equipment (PPE) to mitigate workplace hazards.
- Conduct training programs for employees on hazard recognition, safe work practices, and the proper use of PPE.
- Investigate workplace incidents and accidents to determine root causes and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Maintain accurate records of all industrial hygiene activities, including monitoring data, exposure assessments, and training records.
- Collaborate with other departments, including operations, maintenance, and safety, to ensure a safe and healthy work environment.
- Stay up-to-date on current industrial hygiene regulations, best practices, and emerging trends.
- Manage and maintain industrial hygiene equipment.
- Participate in safety audits and inspections.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of the company's overall safety and health management system.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: (To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required).
- Bachelor's degree in Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Safety and Health, Environmental Health, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience as an Industrial Hygienist, preferably in a manufacturing environment (food processing or similar experience a plus).
- Knowledge of OSHA regulations, NIOSH methods, and other relevant industry standards.
- Experience in conducting workplace assessments, hazard surveys, and exposure monitoring.
- Proficiency in using industrial hygiene monitoring equipment.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Experience with food safety regulations (e.g., FSMA) is a plus.
- Willingness to travel up to 20%
