Compensation: Starting at $90-$120/day
(Based on education level and teacher certification)
A Day in the Life of a Substitute Teacher:
- Work schedule: Monday through Friday, with availability from 7:00 AM to 4:30 PM
- Implement and follow lesson plans provided by the absent teacher to ensure a cohesive and consistent learning experience for students
- Manage the classroom effectively to promote student participation, minimize distractions, and create a positive learning environment
- Adapt teaching methods to meet the needs of individual students
- Supervise students in various settings – classrooms, hallways, playgrounds, and cafeterias
- Provide in-class assignments based on the available lesson plan
- For long-term substitutes, develop lesson plans with guidance from department heads and ensure assignments align with the regular teacher’s curriculum
Substitute Teacher Qualifications:
- Required: Associate degree or 60 college credit hours
- Preferred: Bachelor's degree or teaching certification
- Experience as a substitute teacher is a plus, but not required
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in English
- Excellent interpersonal skills, with a positive and friendly attitude toward students, parents, and administrators
- Ability to lead and instruct students at elementary, middle, and high school levels
- General knowledge of multiple subjects
- Ability to follow and implement lesson plans or consult with school staff if no lesson plan is provided
- Flexibility, critical-thinking, and problem-solving skills
- Ensure student safety at all times
- Maintain a clean, safe, and respectful classroom environment, following all procedures provided by the absent teacher
