What are the responsibilities and job description for the General Foreman position at Alpine Tree Service?
The role of General Foreman (GF) requires a high level of organizational understanding. Including vegetation management safe practices, production strategies, equipment organization, planning, billing, communication, and effective management of personnel.
The GF will take complete ownership of the results of the team members and equipment in operations for projects and work directly with the operations manager/owner to successfully carry out operations in a safe and profitable manner. The GF will directly interface with clients and must have the ability to carefully navigate differing situations and personalities to promote a win-win outcome with both team members and clients.
Day to day responsibilities
A. Planning
1. Scheduling personnel and equipment. Assist weekly scheduling and update meetings as needed.
2. Communication with Foreman on weekly production plans.
3. Providing documents to Foreman for project execution.
4. Assisting in production scheduling for projects.
5. Understanding project targets and Revenue goals.
6. Manage equipment repairs and communication with maintenance supervisor as needed.
7. Help to build out team structure and goals with management staff collaboratively.
8. Become familiar with client and project specific scope of work.
B. Safety
1. Overseeing and promoting a safe work environment for all employees. Leading by example to uphold a high standard.
2. Refer and understand best practices and ANSI standards for tree work.
3. Document areas that need improvement, deliver support to improve deficiencies.
4. Assisting Foreman in placing team members in a position that aligns with their skill level to minimize risks and maximize productivity.
5. Regular check ins with Foreman and follow up on areas of weakness.
6. Holding team accountable on care of equipment, leadership and daily operations.
C. Communication
1. Communicate with Foreman daily. Encourage leaders with positive communication and constructive feedback.
2. Follow up quickly on any issues that may need to be resolved.
3. Promote a work environment that encourages two-way communication.
4. Stay in touch with clients weekly to ensure they are up to date on progress.
5. Work with Operations/HR on a regular basis on all pertinent items.
D. Billing
1. Manage billable hours.
2. Work with Operations manager to ensure clear targets are set and managed for projects.
3. Review and deliver weekly reports such as timecards, Production Activity reports, Right-of-way reports, timesheets etc.
4. Ensure reports are accurate and on time.
5. Work with the billing department to clarify discrepancies as needed.
6. Understand and work to hit target profit margins and production goals.
E. Training
1. Strategize training with Foreman to ensure that newer less-experienced team members are set up for success to grow their skill level and advance company performance.
2. Document all training.
3. Document improvement forms in areas of need with Foreman.
4. Execute annual and regular personnel reviews to promote improvement and provide feedback.
5. Guide growth with team members through goal setting and empowerment.
Requirements
· Five years of industry production experience with positive performance.
· High level of Ownership mentality.

· Computer skills: familiar with Excel, Word, Bamboo, ARC GIS, GMaps, etc…

Pay Range: $30.00 to $35.00 hourly pay
