What are the responsibilities and job description for the ESL Instructor - On-Call Substitute position at ALPS Language School?
ALPS Language School is seeking 1-2 on-call substitute teachers to join the staff of our ESL institute in Capitol Hill, Seattle. Sub positions can convert to regular positions over time, depending on student enrollment levels and school staffing needs.
ABOUT US:
ALPS' students are adult learners from a diverse range of backgrounds and cultures. Our curriculum is equally diverse and includes classes designed to meet a variety of academic, professional, and personal student goals. Our instructional approach is highly communicative and focuses on improving student confidence and fluency, particularly in speaking and listening.
The school is open for in-person instruction. Classes are offered Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:30-5. We are currently teaching mostly in-person classes with a few classes offered online via Zoom. Teachers are expected to work in person from the school building.
ABOUT THE POSITION:
Subs may be called upon for a variety of teaching needs: 1) covering classes on short notice (e.g., for teachers who are ill), 2) covering classes with advance notice (e.g., for teachers taking vacation or leave), 3) teaching non-daily remote or in-person private classes, and 4) teaching regular classes during periods of high enrollment (2-6 hours/day for a month-long session). On-call work is irregular, and hours vary depending on enrollment.
Starting salary: $24.10/hour
Depending on enrollment, this position may transition to regular part-time or full-time hours within the next 2-4 months. Subs receive first consideration for permanent positions as they become available.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Teachers MUST have, at minimum, a Bachelor's degree, plus an ESL qualification (such as a CELTA or TEFL/TESL certificate) or equivalent ESL or other language teaching experience. Experience teaching with Zoom is preferred, not required (training available).
