Description:

The Specialty Staff Pharmacist is responsible for performing clinical and professional pharmacist services in the daily operations including prescription processing, dispensing, and verification; compounding; maintaining proper and safe storage of drugs and devices; patient consultations; provider communication; and offers or performs services, operations, or transactions necessary in conducting the pharmacy. This position reports to the Director, Specialty Pharmacy Services.

It is the pharmacist’s legal responsibility to oversee the actions of all auxiliary personnel used to assist the pharmacist in any of their duties. The pharmacist must comply with all applicable state and federal laws governing the practice of pharmacy and safe distribution of drugs

Qualifications:

  • A graduate of an accredited School of Pharmacy 
  • Must pass Missouri State Board for state pharmacist license
  • Must hold a current and active license(s) by the state board of pharmacy licensed in
  • Multiple state pharmacy licenses preferred 
  • Hold current and active registrations and certifications to administer immunizations and medications
  • Prior experience in compounding or specialty pharmacy preferred  
  • Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing. Additional languages an asset

Responsibilities:

Daily Operations:

  • Responsible for the daily operations and oversight of all business occurring within the pharmacy which include but are not limited to pharmacy security and safe work habits in the absence of the PIC. 
  • Directing the objectives, procedures, and activities for the pharmacy while on duty. 
  • Take all steps required to fill prescriptions in compliance with all laws, regulations, accrediting bodies and company policies and procedures regarding the sale of pharmaceuticals including performing the final audit of the prescription
  • Communication liaison between patients, physicians, and insurance companies.
  • Offers advice and professional consultation; acts as a role model to the pharmacy team; efficiently handles customer complaints; and directs pharmacy operations to keep wait times to a minimum. 
  • Responds to telephone requests from customers, physicians, and vendors that require the expertise of the pharmacist. 
  • Clinical problem solving
  • Accept final accountability for all actions, decisions, and results of the pharmacy staff actions when on duty. 
  • Promote safe work practices by all team members and provide a safe environment for team members and customers/patients.
  • Assists with and responds in a courteous and professional manner to questions from customers and physicians in regards to knowledge of prescription and health related products and issues. 
  • Provides excellent customer service. 
  • Drives pharmacy sales results by ensuring pharmacy team members provide a consistent high quality customer/patient experience. 
  • Manage medication and medical supply inventories. 
  • Administer and document immunization and medical administration services
  • Special projects as deemed necessary.


Pharmacy Staff Management

  • Managing and supervising specialty pharmacy staff in the absence of the PIC. 
  • Communicate with the PIC regarding corrective action needed for during the PIC's absence team members. 

Patient Care:

  • Perform Medication Therapy Management and Medication Therapy Services
  • Complete and document clinical assessments on patients to evaluate efficacy, safety, adherence, and other patient specific goals and monitoring.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor patient care plans.
  • Identify, document, and report Adverse Drug Events.


Quality Improvement:

  • Assist in quality improvement functions
  • Reviews, documents, and monitors complaints and errors
  • Handles and processes employee and customer complaints and grievances and use independent judgment and discretion to ensure customer satisfaction. 

Physical Demands:

  • The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, talk and hear
  • The employee is required to use hands to operate vehicles and office equipment
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 80 pounds
  • Specific vision requirements for this job include: close, distance and peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus
