JOB SUMMARY: The Durable Medical Equipment (DME) Coordinator is responsible for managing the Chapter’s Durable Medical Equipment Loam Program to serve people with ALS throughout the state of Arizona. The job description for this position includes, but is not limited to:
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
· Responds to patient and family inquiries for information on ALS and adaptive durable medical equipment.
· Leverages collaborative partnerships with DME companies to ensure timely delivery and customer satisfaction.
· Communicates weekly via phone, in person, or email with DME loan closet staff to ensure POs have been assigned delivery/pick-up dates.
· Maintains weekly tracking of loaned equipment in database.
· Maintain loan closet inventory for Tucson & Phoenix including:
o Evaluating equipment for functionality - repair or retire as necessary
o Ordering new equipment to maintain stock
o Cleaning and sanitize equipment as needed
o Maintain directions, manuals, warranties and tip-sheets for proper usage & storage of equipment
· Prepares, delivers, adjusts and instructs clients on usage of loaner DME as needed.
· Manages DME donations from community including: pick-up, assessment, and integration into inventory.
· Deliver & pick-up assistive speech technology, respiratory equipment, and other items as needed.
· Coordinates regular maintenance of delivery vans.
· Provides in-service education on various DME for staff.
· Participates in Chapter community awareness, fundraising, and advocacy events.
· Participates in continuing education seminars, workshops and conferences as available and necessary.
· Maintains records/files and provide reports as needed.
· Assists with the delivery of support groups, adaptive recreation and social events, youth events, and others.
· Plans and implements services including in-home care consultations.
· Provides assistive help to the Care Services team, including home and clinic visits.
· Performs administrative tasks as necessary.
· Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
· Knowledge of or capacity for learning about durable medical equipment, durable medical equipment vendors, insurance reimbursement, and the rehabilitation needs of people with progressive disability.
· Ability to assess both physical and psychosocial needs of people with ALS and their families based on knowledge of ALS and its ramifications.
· Strong organizational and communication skills, including computer skills.
· Possesses and expresses a positive attitude toward people with ALS and people with disabilities.
· Ability to function independently within guidelines.
· Ability to establish and maintain professional relationships with clients, volunteers, human service professionals, the public and co-workers.
· Ability to make decisions, resolve conflicts and manage stress.
· Ability to maintain confidentiality of patient and family information.
· Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed.
· Flexibility to travel as needed.
· Arizona driver’s license with ability to drive company vehicle and operate mechanical lift.
