Air & Ocean Import/Export Specialist – International Freight Forwarding
Description:
This is a direct-hire, full-time role with a renowned Global Freight Forwarder. The ideal candidate will have experience handling OOG (Out of Gauge), Project Cargo, and Heavy Haul shipments in addition to standard Air & Ocean Import/Export operations.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Enter Import & Export documentation for International Air & Ocean shipments, ensuring accuracy from origin to destination.
- Ensure all regulatory requirements are met and that shipments include the necessary paperwork, such as transit documents and customs clearances.
- Process, distribute, and manage documentation in a timely manner for carriers, forwarders, customers, and agents.
- Track and update key shipment milestones (departure, arrival, customs clearance, PODs, etc.) following Customer Standard Operating Procedures.
- Provide polite, timely, and efficient customer service.
- Oversee costs and profits, ensuring accurate billing based on agreed pricing.
- Coordinate proper pickup and transfer of shipments with the correct logistics partners.
- Apply knowledge of Incoterms and commercial invoice standards.
- Develop and implement techniques for transporting cargo from local or offshore locations to warehouses, storage sites, or final destinations.
- Work with Project Cargo, OOG shipments, and Heavy Haul movements, ensuring proper handling and compliance with industry regulations.
- Prepare management reports as directed by the Branch Manager.
- Negotiate and submit shipping costs for approval to maintain competitiveness.
- Prepare and manage customs declarations and bonds.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with local suppliers and co-load carriers, including airline agents, freight forwarders, customs brokers, trucking companies, and regional line-haul providers.
- Ensure a clean, organized, safe, and healthy work environment.
- Apply existing regulatory knowledge to HTS/Schedule B classifications, tariff filings, hazardous material handling, and government agency compliance.
- Respond promptly to emails and rate requests, supporting local sales efforts.
- Continuously review freight expenses to identify cost-saving opportunities in the supply chain.
Requirements:
- 5 years of Export Operations experience in the Freight Forwarding industry.
- Experience handling OOG, Project Cargo, and Heavy Haul shipments.
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Logistics, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Proficiency in Freight Forwarding software (CargoWise One, SAP, AS400).
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel and database functions.
- Problem-solving mindset with the ability to analyze and resolve challenges efficiently.
- Understanding of state, federal, and international regulations, including customs, security, and government agency requirements
Salary : $60,000 - $80,000
