About The Role
Responsibility for the day-to-day operational management of the Inorganic Chemistry Department to achieve growth and profit in line with the budget and strategic plan.
Responsibilities
About you:
- Oversight for compliance with all Occupational Health, Safety and Environmental (OHSE) matters related to the operation.
- Compliance with all Radiation Safety matters related to the operation.
- Enact the short and medium strategies for the business unit and provide support in the compilation of annual budgets and strategic plans in co-operation with the Laboratory Director.
- Management, administration and responsibility for all quality matters related to the department including new employee inductions, level 3 approvals, technical audits, equipment calibration and maintenance, training records management and incident management.
- Ensure that the department and resources are managed effectively and efficiently to achieve or exceed budget profitability, planned growth and development.
- Work cooperatively with the other businesses to ensure all Company resources are fully and effectively utilized. Review and analyze monthly employee performance against forecast and budget. Identify and initiate corrective action and communicate this to staff and senior management.
- Work with direct reports to facilitate training and professional development to enable employees to reach their full potential.
- Assist with management of WIP and debtors in accordance with company objectives.
- Management and support of the department workforce so as to achieve optimum results and productivity at all levels.
- Develop staff by setting objectives, performance review, coaching and succession planning.
- Awareness of the content and intent of all quality procedures and ensuring that they are implemented and followed.
- Awareness of the content and intent of all company policies and ensuring that they are implemented and followed.
- Implementation and encouragement of a team approach within a continuous improvement culture.
- Awareness and knowledge of competitors and their activities and strategies within the region.
- Assist the Project Managers to prepare tenders, proposals and submissions in accordance with the delegated level of authority for the position.
- Ensure all equipment is serviceable.
- Managerial/supervisory experience in a field related to analytical testing, inspection or asset care services.
- Well-developed organizational, communication and report writing skills.
- Knowledge of industrial plant and analytical equipment.
- Sound PC skills, proficient with MS Office software.
- An understanding of Non-Destructive Testing Techniques.
- Experience and knowledge in corporate and site-based Quality Systems.
- Experience in the preparation of reports including compliance reports, proposals, client reports & technical reports.
- Sound knowledge and ability to implement relevant safety and environmental legislation and licensing conditions.
- Ability to communicate difficult/sensitive information tactfully.
- Bachelor of Chemistry or related science with 5 years of experience in an analytical laboratory operation.
- In-depth knowledge of methods and instrumentation utilized for inorganic analysis.
- Able to speak and hear clearly while communicating with staff, management, and clients.
- Able to sit, and /or stand for 100% of an 8-hour day.
- Dexterity in hands and fingers to operate computer and other equipment.
- Must have average vision and able to see to read reports and operate equipment.
