Alsum Farms, Inc, a sister company to Alsum Farms & Produce, Inc., is looking for a full-time Shop Mechanic in Arena, WI! Alsum Farms & Produce, Inc. is a grower, packer, and shipper of potatoes & onions located in Friesland, WI. As a Shop Mechanic, you will be responsible for the maintenance of farm equipment, buildings, and storage facilities at our Arena, WI location.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Ensure proper maintenance of farm equipment by overseeing all shop activities and work orders and develop and maintain an annual maintenance schedule for farm equipment
- Monitor and provide guidance to farm and contract labor employees working in the shop, assigning priorities based on operational readiness timelines
- Collaborate with the farm manager to coordinate the ordering of parts for farm trucks and field equipment
- Maintain accurate inventory records for farm equipment parts and supplies by inputting work orders and purchase orders into the designated software program
- Train full-time farm staff on farm equipment maintenance and provide guidance to seasonal farm staff, specifically during harvest, on proper pre-trip inspections and operation of farm field trucks
- Oversee the maintenance and repair of farm buildings and grounds to enhance efficiency, safety, and protection of crops, buildings, and equipment
- Ensure the proper functioning of storage bin equipment, including ventilation and humidity controls
- Address breakdowns in the potato truck fleet and farm equipment promptly to maintain a continuous flow of potatoes from fields to storage bins
- Perform other related duties as necessary or assigned
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Extensive mechanical experience (farm equipment preferred)

Job Schedule: Your expected hours will vary depending on season, but you can expect the following approximate schedule:
- Winter Season (November-March) = 36-40 weekly hours
- Seed Cutting Season (March-April) = 50 weekly hours
- Planting Season (April-Mid-May) = 60-70 weekly hours
- Growing Season (Mid-May-August) = 40-55 weekly hours (4-5 weekends on call for irrigation break downs)
- Harvest Season (September-October) = 60-80 weekly hours
Requirements
Physical and Environmental Demands:
- Various repetitive movements. Good manual dexterity to perform required duties
- Exposure to airborne particles or fumes
- Must be able to lift 100 pounds at times
- Must wear safety glasses and hearing protection in designated areas
- Physically able to conduct inspections and carry equipment used for inspections
