Job Overview
Alta Forest Products is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Operations Manager to lead our lumber production team. As a key member of our management team, you will be responsible for driving operational excellence, ensuring high-quality products, and maintaining a safe working environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operational Leadership
- Direct and coordinate sawmill activities to achieve optimal efficiency and economy of operations, maximizing profits.
- Develop and implement strategies to reduce downtime, analyzing options and orchestrating solutions.
- Performance Management
- Assess the performance, productivity, and skills of the mill crew, recommending and initiating solutions to prioritize maintenance and production activities.
- Ensure timely and effective training of the crew, promoting knowledge sharing and skill development.
- Safety and Quality
- Collaborate with the Mill Manager and Project Engineering team to ensure that significant mill projects are completed on time and within budget.
- Implement and maintain safety protocols, conducting regular assessments and implementing corrective actions as necessary.
- Develop and enforce quality control procedures, ensuring compliance with industry standards.
- Cross-Functional Coordination
- Coordinate with various departments, including operating, manufacturing, engineering, planning, sales, maintenance, and research and development, to drive operational efficiency and economy.
Requirements
- High School Diploma/GED or equivalent
- Bachelor's degree (or higher) in Business, Forestry, or a related technical field
- At least 3 years of leadership experience in lumber or wood products manufacturing
- Demonstrated safety leadership within a manufacturing environment
- Knowledge of lumber grading procedures
