What are the responsibilities and job description for the Respite Home Staff position at Alta Mira NM?
Alta Mira is a non-profit organization that has been supporting individuals with developmental or intellectual delays or disabilities, and their families, since 1985. We provide services to all age groups. We support over 800 children annually in our Early Intervention Program and 1500 adults in our Family Support Services. Attendance and Punctuality:
- Notification of absences 24-hours prior to shift
- Arrival to work within 5 minutes of scheduled shift
- Attendance at staff meetings/trainings (2x monthly)
- Inform supervisor of any changes in schedule prior to the change
- Submission of timesheets and Leave Requests according to agency policies and procedures
Participant Interactions:
- Always ensure participant safety
- Assist participants with personal hygiene needs
- Encourage participants to engage in social activities and community outings
- Teach Independent Living Skills (cooking, cleaning, hygiene, money management)
- Transport participants to outings
- Supervise participants
Trainings:
- Attendance to Individual Specific Trainings for Respite Home participants
- Completion of all DDSD trainings by given deadlines
- Completion of agency annual trainings by given deadline
- Review of new participant files prior to working with the participant
Documentation:
Completion of the following:
- Monthly paperwork (Attendance Sheets, Petty Cash, fire drills) to be submitted to supervisor by the first day of the following month.
- Accurate records of attendance sheets as participants arrive and depart.
- Petty Cash Receipt form and receipts collected for activities- only during supervisor’s absence.
- Petty Cash Verification form – only during supervisor’s absence.
- Medication documentation
- Incident Reports submitted within given timeframe
- Monthly Activity Calendar, weekly menu, and grocery list
- Progress Notes for each participant at each visit
- Assist supervisor with weekly menu for each participant
- Mileage record – if needed
- Collection and accuracy of participant Physician’s Standing Order and Prescriptive Medication forms
Communication:
- “Crossover” discussion with co-worker from previous shift
- Communicates respectfully and professionally.
- Consult with supervisor regarding any concerns regarding participants/families
- Voice messages checked prior to participant’s arrival and upon return from activities
- Communication Log read prior to participants’ arrival
- Supervisor notification of any urgent/emergency situations
- Supervisor notification of any changes in staff schedule prior to the change
- Supervisor notification of any house or van maintenance needs
Scheduling
- Ensure space is available utilizing the Weekly Schedule Book
- Assess appropriate staff to participant ratio based on needs of participants
- Consult with supervisor regarding any special circumstances, including emergencies
Household Duties:
- Bathrooms cleaned
- Floors swept/vacuumed/mopped
- Trash emptied
- Laundry completed
- Kitchen table cleared
- Dishes, countertops, stovetop, microwave cleaned
- Dusting
- Basic maintenance of grounds
- Van cleaning and gas tank filled
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Position requires walking, standing, sitting for prolonged periods of time.
- May occasionally lift over 50 pounds and carries small objects from waist to chest.
- Must be able to type.
- Ability to get along with others
- Ability to distinguish telephone rings and to hear and speak clearly over the telephone.
- Regularly needs to bend, stoop and reach.
- Must be able to speak, read and write English.
- Vision and hearing sufficient to perform the essential functions of the job.
SKILLS
Must be able to relate to individuals from a variety of social, cultural and economic backgrounds. Service oriented and computer literate. Familiarity with developmental disabilities. Collaborative working style. Bilingual in Spanish and English preferred.
