Alta Science and Engineering, Inc. is seeking a dynamic individual with strong leadership and interpersonal skills that can contribute to the development of client relationships; business growth by identifying and pursuing business opportunities and establishing positive client relationships; and management of projects. This position offers great opportunity for advancement, as we are looking for recognized environmental leaders with a strong network in central Washington and the Inland Northwest. Qualified candidates must have a minimum of 20 years of experience planning, designing, conducting, and/or managing environmental and ecological projects at contaminated sites and/or researching environmental/ecological problems. The position will be based out of our Spokane, WA office, but could work remotely. The successful candidate will be a self-motivated, organized, personable, and detail-oriented individual who can work well on a team and independently, in a fast-paced environment. This is a Regular Full-Time (40 hrs/wk) benefited position.
Responsibilities May Include:
Technical:
- Provide technical expertise and leadership to plan, manage, and/or conduct:
- Complex environmental projects related, but not limited to CERCLA sites, Brownfields sites, RCRA sites, hazardous waste impacts, and natural resources impacts.
- Environmental and ecological investigations and monitoring.
- Synthesis and analysis of environmental and ecological data to delineate nature and extent of contamination, quantify risks, or evaluate impacts/injury to natural resources. Communicate findings to clients, stakeholders, and staff.
- Prepare, review, and/or track complex, technical documents associated with CERCLA, NRDA, Brownfields, State- or Tribal-led site work or research (e.g., human or ecological risk assessments, remedial investigation/feasibility studies, data summary reports, quality assurance project plans, etc.).
- Develop project scopes of work or study designs, and cost estimates. Manage project schedules, budgets, and technical teams.
- Maintain a high degree of professionalism during interactions with Alta staff, clients, and other stakeholders.
- Actively promote good Health and Safety practices at all times
Business Development and Growth:

- Identify business opportunities in targeted markets consistent with Altas business strategy
- Develop specific client and opportunity strategies
- Lead Go/No Go discussions
- Lead team effort to position for targeted pursuits
Establish & Maintain Positive Client Relationships:
- Identify and effectively participate in industry networking opportunities
- Identify target clients and opportunities
- Meet with potential clients to understand potential opportunities
- Meet with decision makers and influencers to understand client needs/objectives
- Identify key issues important to clients and their decision drivers
- Develop Win Strategies focused on the best approach to deliver client value
- Facilitate effective engagement between clients and Altas operations staff and technical experts
Competitor Knowledge:
- Identify and research competitors
- Understand competitors strengths and weaknesses
- Lead effective teaming strategies when appropriate
- Inform win strategy development based on competitive intelligence
Minimum Qualifications:
- BS in Environmental Science, Engineering, Biology, or other closely related technical degree; MS preferred
- Minimum of 20 years professional experience in related discipline
- Experience in project management; additional office and/or personnel management preferred
- Minimum of 10 years experience with CERCLA, NRDA, or other related federal, state, or tribal regulations and guidance; preferably with the Washington Model Toxics Control Act (MTCA)
- Experience with Washington State Environmental Information Management (EIM), Hanford Environmental Information System (HEIS), or other state and federal environmental and toxicological data sources
- Strong regional professional network or experience in Marketing/Business Development with government agencies, preferably with Hanford regulatory agencies and/or prime contractors
- Experience working with groups of diverse stakeholders, including tribal, state and federal representatives
- Strong technical writing and verbal communication skills, with attention to detail
- Strong scientific/technical capabilities, along with organization, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills
- Cooperative attitude and ability to work with diverse teams
- Ability to travel periodically for site visits, meetings, and conferences
- Strong familiarity with Microsoft Office products including Word and Excel
- Valid driver's license and insurable driving record
