Altech is a provider of IT services and support on the NASA - Advanced Enterprise Global Information Technology Solutions (AEGIS) program. We are currently seeking a highly skilled and certified RedHat OpenShift Administrator SME to join our Specialized Services team supporting the NASA Office of Strategic Infrastructure (OSI), Facilities and Real Estate Division (FRED) IT. This is an exciting opportunity to lead and manage complex OpenShift environments in support of NASA’s mission-critical operations.
Salary: $160,000 - $175,000
Location: Remote (must live within 50 miles of a NASA Center)

Position Overview:
The RedHat OpenShift Administrator SME 4 will be responsible for designing, building, managing, and maintaining on-premises RedHat OpenShift container platforms to meet NASA OSI’s strategic and operational needs. This role requires hands-on experience in OpenShift cluster administration, Kubernetes, Linux environments, and enterprise-grade container orchestration platforms.
Key Responsibilities:
- Build, configure, and maintain RedHat OpenShift container platforms, ensuring high availability and scalability.
- Manage OpenShift platform components, including nodes, clusters, pods, services, policies, and Kubernetes engine resources.
- Oversee and resolve dependencies on various computing platforms, including Linux (UNIX variants) and Windows environments.
- Provide expert troubleshooting and resolution of complex OpenShift environment issues.
- Monitor and optimize platform performance, ensuring alignment with best practices for security, reliability, and scalability.
- Automate system management and container orchestration tasks using scripting languages such as Python.
- Collaborate with cross-functional NASA teams, including infrastructure, cybersecurity, and development, to support mission goals.
- Stay current with industry trends and continuously improve OpenShift platform efficiencies, including cost management processes and operational workflows.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (experience may substitute for a degree).
- Minimum 16 years of IT experience, with specialized knowledge in container platforms and OpenShift administration.
- Current RedHat Certified OpenShift Administrator certification (must be active).
- Strong expertise in OpenShift administration, including cluster management, application deployment, and troubleshooting.
- In-depth knowledge of Kubernetes concepts and principles.
- Proficiency in Linux system administration, including command-line and system configuration tasks.
- Experience with container technologies and orchestration platforms.
- Solid understanding of networking, including DNS, load balancing, and security.
- Scripting proficiency (e.g., Python) for automation and platform management.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with an ability to collaborate effectively across technical and business teams.
- Ability to adapt and thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience supporting NASA IT environments or other federal agencies.
- Familiarity with hybrid cloud platforms and integration with on-premises infrastructure.
- Additional certifications related to Kubernetes, Linux, or cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).
