About the Role:
We are hiring additional Network Systems Support Specialists to join our growing team at NASA MSFC under the AEGIS contract. This is a high-impact role supporting NASA’s global mission communication networks, ensuring secure and reliable flow of real-time telemetry and command data for space and aeronautical missions.
This position is ideal for candidates with solid network operations, Cisco/Juniper device experience, and an interest in mission-critical support.
Key Responsibilities:
- Monitor and maintain NASA’s Mission Network (NASCOM) using standard tools and NASA-specific systems.
- Provide Tier-1/Tier-2 support for routers, switches, and transmission equipment (Cisco, Juniper, Ciena).
- Respond to network incidents, troubleshoot dataflow issues, and coordinate real-time resolution with NASA centers.
- Operate NASA-unique hardware and support test/implementation of new services.
- Participate in a 24x7 rotating shift environment at the Mission Alternate Operating Facility (MAOF).
- Document issues and work collaboratively with internal and external technical teams.
Required Qualifications:
- Working knowledge of TCP/IP, subnetting, and WAN connectivity.
- Hands-on experience with Cisco/Juniper network gear and standard tools (e.g., traceroute, ping, SNMP).
- Strong communication skills and ability to multitask in high-pressure, real-time environments.
- Comfortable working non-standard shifts (nights, weekends, holidays).
- Experience with network monitoring tools such as NNMi, MRTG, CACTI, or similar.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiarity with SONET, MPLS, OC-3/48, T1/T3 links.
- Knowledge of serial interfaces (RS232, RS449, V.35) and Linux systems.
- Experience working with telecom providers (e.g., Verizon, AT&T).
- Experience using network analyzers, probes, and packet capture tools.
- Familiarity with ticketing systems and operational certifications.
Certifications (Preferred but Not Required):
- CCNA, CCNP, JNCIA or equivalent training
Travel:
- Occasional travel to NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center (Greenbelt, MD) may be required for training.
