This role requires close collaboration with design, engineering, and supplier teams to ensure tool feasibility, part quality, and production efficiency.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide technical leadership on polymer parts and plastic tooling throughout the product lifecycle—from initial DFM assessments to final product launch.
- Partner with design engineers and external suppliers to evaluate tooling feasibility, ensure optimal design, and recommend improvements for cost-effectiveness and manufacturability.
- Review and analyze mold flow simulations and tooling designs prior to tool fabrication and approval.
- Ensure compliance with internal tooling standards and industry best practices.
- Maintain thorough documentation of technical processes, decisions, and tool design reviews.
- Represent the materials and tooling team in cross-functional meetings and supplier engagements, including site visits when required.

- Minimum of 5 years of experience in evaluating injection molding designs and reviewing DFM reports for plastic components.
- Deep understanding of injection mold design and advanced tooling technologies such as overmolding, in-mold decoration, foaming, and variable thermal processes.
- Proven experience in DFM for visually critical (A-surface) automotive parts.
- Familiarity with simulation tools such as Autodesk Moldflow for evaluating mold performance.
- Strong practical knowledge of the injection molding process, including set-up and optimization.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Willingness to travel up to 25% domestically and internationally, as needed.
Preferred Skills:
- Previous experience in the automotive industry, particularly across the full product development cycle.
- Hands-on involvement in conducting Moldflow simulations, tool trials, and participating in tool validation and sign-offs.
- Experience with tool cost estimation and understanding the cost implications of part design changes.
- Exposure to alternative plastic forming technologies such as blow molding, vacuum forming, slush molding, compression molding, and thermoforming.
