The Project Manager – HPDC is responsible for leading and optimizing high-pressure die casting (HPDC) processes in the automotive manufacturing industry. This role involves managing resources, improving production efficiency, ensuring quality standards, and overseeing new vehicle model launches. The Project Manager will drive continuous improvement initiatives, manage budgets, and lead cross-functional teams to enhance overall operational performance in die-cast component production.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage engineering teams to achieve continuous improvement goals in HPDC operations.
- Oversee the implementation of new vehicle model launches and capacity expansions.
- Develop and maintain project schedules, budgets, and forecasts, ensuring alignment with production targets.
- Provide cost estimates and feasibility studies for new and retooling projects.
- Collaborate with suppliers and engineering teams to optimize die casting processes and tooling.
- Utilize advanced manufacturing tools and statistical methods to enhance production efficiency and reduce defects.
- Ensure HPDC lines and processes meet automotive industry standards and PPAP requirements at 70% OPE.
- Lead Kaizen and lean manufacturing projects to improve quality, reduce cycle times, and optimize production.
- Present project updates and technical reports to senior management.
- Train and mentor engineers in problem-solving methodologies and HPDC best practices.
- Provide technical troubleshooting and support to improve overall equipment effectiveness (OEE).
- Maintain and update technical documentation related to HPDC processes, including:
- Tooling and operation sheets
- Machine and die design drawings
- PFMEAs and control plans
- One-point lessons (OPLs) and emergency work orders (EWOs)
- Software backup programs
- Manage spare parts inventory and ensure critical tooling availability.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Industrial, or related field).
- 5-10 years of experience in high-pressure die casting (HPDC) within the automotive industry.
- Strong knowledge of die design, tooling, and casting techniques for aluminum/magnesium components.
- Experience with CAD software and casting simulation tools.
- Proven expertise in automotive manufacturing standards (IATF 16949, PPAP, APQP, and GD&T).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with experience in process optimization and defect reduction.
- Excellent project management skills, including budgeting, scheduling, and cross-functional coordination.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Ability to travel 20-40% as needed.
