Summary:
This position is responsible for ensuring supplier-provided components, assemblies, and services meet engineering and quality specifications throughout the product lifecycle. The Supplier Quality Engineer will interface with internal engineering, manufacturing, procurement, and external suppliers to drive supplier selection, process qualification, and continuous performance improvement initiatives.
Core Responsibilities:
- Lead supplier onboarding and qualification through technical assessments, audits, and process capability evaluations.
- Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective/preventive actions (RCCA/8D) for supplier-related non-conformances.
- Develop and maintain quality plans including control plans, inspection criteria, and supplier-specific requirements.
- Evaluate and mitigate supply chain risk through process mapping, PFMEA, and supplier process audits.
- Perform capability studies and apply statistical process control (SPC) to monitor and improve supplier performance.
- Interpret and enforce conformance to mechanical/electrical component specifications, engineering drawings (GD&T), and industry standards.
- Collaborate on Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Quality (DFQ) with R&D and Advanced Manufacturing teams.
- Utilize measurement systems and metrology techniques to validate parts and assemblies (e.g., CMM, optical, destructive testing).
- Lead incoming inspection optimization initiatives using risk-based sampling techniques and data-driven methods.
- Ensure compliance with internal QMS standards as well as regulatory/industry requirements (e.g., ISO 9001, AS9100, IATF 16949 depending on context).
- Drive cost of poor quality (CoPQ) reduction efforts through data analysis, process improvements, and supplier engagement.
Technical Requirements:
- Proficiency in quality engineering methodologies: Six Sigma, DOE, SPC, MSA, DFMEA, APQP, PPAP, CAPA, etc.
- Strong working knowledge of production processes such as machining, injection molding, casting, PCBA, and/or composites.
- Hands-on experience with quality tools: Minitab, GAGEtrak, or similar analysis platforms.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering documentation including 2D/3D CAD files, schematics, BOMs, and Engineering Change Notices (ECNs).
- Competence with ERP systems (SAP experience preferred) and reporting tools (Excel, Access, Power BI, etc.).
- Familiarity with quality inspection standards, including ANSI Z1.4, ISO 2859, and ISO 8015.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, or equivalent technical discipline); Master’s degree is a plus.
- 3–5 years of experience in supplier quality engineering, manufacturing quality, or process engineering.
- Certification in Six Sigma (Green/Black Belt) or Lean Manufacturing is preferred.
- Willingness to travel 30–50% (domestic and international) for supplier engagement, qualification, and issue resolution.
- Multilingual capability (e.g., French) is an asset in global supplier interface contexts.
