The Project Engineering Lead (PEL) is responsible for leading a cross-functional development team to successfully develop automotive electronic achieving project and company mandated targets.
Job Responsibilities
- Lead internal Product development team meetings and follow up to ensure all required tasks are done in a timely fashion to meet all milestones.
- Leads the activities to ensure engineering (GPEP) work products and any other relevant deliverables are released per project’s configuration management and timing plans and are in compliance with product development process and customer expectations.
- Primary technical contact for the Customer and Product Development Team
- Read and interpret Customer specifications and ensure requirements are documented and incorporated into the product design.
- Participate in the development of mechanical, electrical, and software domain and manufacturing technical requirements and specifications.
- Ensure test and analysis coverage validates that the design meets all requirements.
- Ensure manufacturing in a robust process.
- Responsible for delivery of design work products (FMEA, FTA, WCA, Testability, Requirement Bilateral Traceability, others)
- Solve technical issues associated with Customer and product demand and Drive failure analysis and present to the Customer.
- In conjunction with Line Managers, ensure that internal processes and procedures are followed during all phases of the product lifecycle.
- Responsible for efficiently and effectively leading the product or core development teams on an assigned project.
- Review, track, communicate and approve product plans and status on a regular basis. Communicate development status to management using dashboards, charts and reports as appropriate.
- Work with managers and senior managers to identify and resolve issues quickly within the team project organization. Manage technical escalation paths appropriately. Escalate where necessary for communication of issues, requests for assistance, and unexpected situations.
- Manage engineering risks. Report status prepare contingency and mitigation plans and execute corrective actions. Manage escalation paths appropriately. Escalate where necessary for communication of issues, requests for assistance (resource, organizational, or technical) and unexpected situations.
- Owns the overall integrated product design. Responsible for ensuring that the design meets the customer/project requirements.
- Review and approve engineering work products.
- Manage engineering part release and change control.
- Develop effort estimates and engineering timing plans per internal and external milestones, expected work products, and product deliveries.
- Supports and ensures timely and effective negotiation of customer requirements, change requests including unwritten requirements.
- Attend customer project (PDT) meetings as necessary.
- Drives the discovery and development of necessary Engineering Development (ED) activities.
- Responsible to evaluate and determine DV and PV readiness.
- Monitors and, if required, creates issues and defects, leads problem solving activities and presents findings (8Ds) to customers and ensures timely resolution of each.
- Responsible to actively pursue cost savings ideas.
- Drive Value Engineering (VE) activities prior to DV design freeze. Participate in Value Analysis (VA) activities in an effort to drive costs out of products.
- Support customer presentations and act as the primary technical interface to customers on technical topics.
- Lead and prioritize day-to-day activities of the technical project team.
- Facilitate Level 2 Reviews - Program Level Reviews (PLR)
- Approve Level 3 Reviews - Cross Functional Reviews (CFR)
- Ensures engineering targets (quality, delivery timing, performance, product BOM Costs, etc.) for product deliverables are met on-time.
- Supports engineering quote response for new projects.
- Manages change: Responsible for the consolidation of engineering estimates, cost and timing impacts and negotiates technical requirements with customer.
- Responsible for communicating status and timely delivery of all project related work products needed by our manufacturing team. Specifically, ensure design for manufacturability, smooth transition into manufacturing (especially for new designs), and testing of the product.
- Responsible to ensure timely and appropriate build of engineering development samples.
- Participates in continuous improvement efforts, researches, recommends and initiates implementation of enhancements to products and processes.
- Reviews and approves decisions made by the technical project team.
- Able to operate with limited management direction on a day to day basis
- Dotted line tactical leadership of the project teams providing critical employee developmental and performance feedback to the administrative managers.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or demonstrated equivalent skills.
- Minimum of 10 years’ deep and relevant experience regarding the responsibility / activities (listed above) in serial development. Automotive electronic (mandatory).
- Minimum of 5 years of demonstrated experience in a technical leadership role. Leading a global team is a plus.
- Proven track record of successful launches of automotive products.

- Working knowledge of Fusa/Cysec standards preferred.
- Working knowledge of HIL/SIL procedures and equipment
- Working knowledge in planned and structured engineering approach
- Working knowledge and experience utilizing problem solving techniques such as 8D or Fishbone
- Troubleshooting and debugging skills
- DFMEA experience desired
- Working knowledge of configuration management, and project monitoring and document control techniques (preferably PTC/MKS).
- Matlab/Simulink, dSpace, Labview, model-based development tools desired.
- Working knowledge of CAN and LIN based tools such as CANalyzer, CANoe, CANape, neoVI and other automotive networks and related tools.
- Advanced knowledge of MS Office package.
- Comprehensive knowledge of English (verbal and written)
- Local Language desirable.
