SAFETY TECHNICIAN

Position Overview:

Alterman, Inc. has an opening for the position of Safety Technician. The Safety Technician will be responsible for ensuring field compliance and execution with Alterman, Inc.’s safety programs, policies, and current OSHA regulations. This position will provide technical assistance, consultation, analysis, and training services for designated jobsites. 

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

• Assess specific job activities for safety risk and work with project supervision to ensure the safety of our employees and confirm compliance with OSHA’s rules and regulations.
• Conduct daily jobsite observations to assist the Project Manager, General Foreman, and/or Foreman in identifying and abating exposures to our employees. Accurate Safety Assessments of these visits are to be kept with hazards and abatements documented for records.
• Work with the project safety and operations leadership to implement safety policies through training, reinforcement, and coaching.
• Assist in investigations for all incidents and near misses, assist in preparing reports detailing causes and remedies to prevent reoccurrences.
• Assist and conduct regular jobsite safety training using safety toolbox topics or more formal class settings as needed.
• Maintain working knowledge of Alterman safety policies and procedures. Provide coaching and explanation to field employees and supervision.
• Support implementation of key safety initiatives.
• Provide leadership support and coaching to promote employee engagement.
• Support / promote employee appreciation / recognition program for safe work behaviors.
• Support / promote Near Miss / At Risk reporting.
• Ensure Training / Learning Opportunities are appropriately shared and implemented.
• Conduct site safety assessments.
• Support case management.

Qualifications:

• Familiarity working around energized electrical construction work, control of hazardous energies, proper PPE for each task, lockout/tagout procedures and familiarity with the Confined Space program.
• OSHA 10 and/or OSHA 30 training.
• Trained to administer first aid to employees with minor injuries.
• Must be knowledgeable in basic paperwork skills.
• Must be currently employed with Alterman.

Physical Demands:

• Ability to lift 15 to 40 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation.
• Ability to stand, walk, climb, bend, reach, stoop, kneel, lift, carry, push, pull, handle products, and stretch for extended periods with or without reasonable accommodation.
• Work at heights and be able to climb ladders, stairways, and work from platforms.
• Must be willing and able to work in an environment that has extreme temperatures, humidity, hazardous/loud equipment, and slippery surfaces.
