What are the responsibilities and job description for the English Language Acquisition (ELA) Volunteer position at ALTERNATIVE ED?
Located at The Alternative Education Center. Needed 3-9 hours a week.
Job summary:
To assist the ELA instructor with teaching English language skills to non-English speaking and limited English-speaking students.
Essential Duties:
- Helps ELA instructor register students.
- Complies with ELA instructor methods for teaching students English.
- Helps students learn to speak, read and write English.
- Helps ELA instructor test students to determine what NRS level to students begin.
- Uses ELA workbooks, lesson plans as directed by the ELA instructor.
- Complies with all School Board Policies and state laws relative to classroom operations.
- Helps instructor create a welcoming and friendly learning environment.
Job Specifications:
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and /or ability required)
Must be able to speak, read and understand Spanish. Must be willing to work with students that speak other languages including Chinese, Russian, and Korean. A four-year degree is preferred but not required.
