The South Dakota Value Added Agriculture Development Center (VAADC) is on the lookout for a dynamic, detail-oriented Accountant Specialist to help propel our organization—and South Dakota’s agribusiness industry—to new heights!
As our Accountant Specialist, you’ll be at the heart of our financial operations, taking the lead on everything from daily bookkeeping tasks to strategic financial analysis. What You’ll Do:
Monthly Bookkeeping
- Oversee financial transactions—from accounts payable and receivable to bank reconciliations
- Maintain accurate, up-to-date general ledger and financial records
Year-End Accounting
- Prepare and finalize annual financial statements
- Guide the fiscal year close-out process
- Collaborate with external auditors
Budgeting
- Develop and maintain the annual operating budget
- Track variances and prepare budget reports and forecasts
Financial Reporting
- Produce monthly, quarterly, and annual reports (income statements, balance sheets, cash flow)
- Analyze financial data to inform decision-making and track progress
- Ensure timely submission of required financial documentation
Grant Development & Management
- Research grant opportunities aligned with VAADC’s mission and client projects, with a focus on cooperatives and other agribusiness
- Draft competitive proposals for federal, state, and private funding
- Manage grant budgets, accurately tracking expenditures and preparing reimbursement requests
- Oversee grant execution—from timelines to deliverables and agency reporting
Revolving Loan Fund (Future Development)
- Assist in creating and establishing a Revolving Loan Fund
- Play a key role in managing the fund once operational
Additional Responsibilities
- Support internal controls and risk management procedures
- Contribute to administrative, event, and client-facing activities
- Collaborate with leadership to explore and pursue diverse funding opportunities to support VAADC’s mission
What You Bring
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field
- 3 years of financial accounting experience
- Expertise in QuickBooks and Microsoft Office Suite
- Exceptional attention to detail, organization, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to juggle multiple priorities and meet deadlines
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Talent for both independent work and team collaboration
What We Offer
- Salary range of $55,000 to $60,000 annually
