Job Title: Part - time Adult Education Instructor
Reports to: Site Director
Hybrid (In-person and Virtual)
Hours: 8:30am - 1:30pm
Position Description:
Adult Education Instructor prepares young adults to take the General Educational Development test and transition into the workforce and/or post secondary education. This position requires a willingness to engage and build relationships with out-of-school youth re-entering an academic (GED) learning environment.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Teach GED level subjects with emphasis on Math and Language Arts to urban youth.
- Develop and maintain documented, structured and current course curricula in respective subject area(s), to include weekly sub folders.
- Incorporate contextualized and differentiated learning methods into classroom instruction.
- Facilitate effective reading, math, science and/or social studies instruction & comprehension by utilizing current GED instructional and relevant supplementary materials.
- Prepare syllabus and lesson plans according to curriculum and in alignment with core content standards set by the Illinois Community College Board.
- Meet with students for ongoing academic evaluation and progress towards goals and career plan development.
- Achieve accountability goals for students’ gains, attendance and completion rates.
- Instruct students in test taking strategies via paper and computerized assessment.
- Record daily attendance and completion of student work.
- Prepare students for U.S. - Illinois Constitution exam.
- Teach students to work effectively in small groups on classroom exercises.
- Maintain high learning expectations in the classroom.
- Attend a minimum of 9 hours of professional development trainings and seminars per year.
- Participate in client assessment activities, including intake interviews.
- Exhibit effective classroom management skillls
Organizational Requirements:
· Support ASN sponsored events
- Understand contractual & funding requirements & obligations.
- Participate in organizational and departmental meetings.
· Attend all ASN/GED staff and programmatic meetings, conferences, etc.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree, with teaching experience and Illinois certification preferred.
- Experience working with at-risk youth.
- Experience in computer-assisted training and assessment.
- Ability to work as a team member.
- Strong time management and classroom leadership skills required.
- Bilingual in Spanish (preferred)

Pay: $44,000.00 per year
